I did, years ago. The glass section really dated them IMO. They were cool at the time.

Someone I know bought a Type S with a Tyre R grill and then got the rear middle cluster with the red badge from a Type R also. Looks well in fairness.

Similar to yourself the aul fella parted with his Megane from brand new after 14 years the other day. He says he'll miss it but he admits the E90 he got is a different kettle of fish all together. Just have to drill into him now to pick up the cheaper fuel pump :p

So far all mechanical work since I bought it.
    Done:

    Fully polybushed everything underneath.
    Fixed awful squeaky suspension.
Finally removed stupid lock nuts last owner put on all the wheels with no tool to take them off with.
    Full engine and transmission service.
    Dyno'd at 332 BHP.

    To Do:

LCI bonnet, front bumper, projector headlights. LCI boot and lights, 335d exhaust setup.
Figure out how to pay the tax!

The S2000 is such a good looking car. Lovely colour too. Not a fan of them in black.

S2000s are class. What a phenomenal piece of engineering that VTEC engine is, 237 bhp from a naturally aspirated 2.0 litre engine! Shame there aren't engines like that now.

I love it, and it's fairly cheap to run too. Have classic tax with Autoline now (I know!) and 6 months tax is only €400. If anyone is ever thinking of one, can't recommend them enough.

    Classic insurance?

Yes turned 15 in January and Autoline quoted. €500 ish for year with 5000 mile limit. Was very hard to insure before that, was about €1800.

I was only paying €710/year when I had mine - it was a 2001 reg. Is €400/six months not more expensive!?

(I may be missing something obvious here - apologies if so :D)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,883 ✭✭✭hooch-85

It's more expensive to tax per quarter or biannually, than if you pay all in one go for a year.

But in relative terms I think bang for buck the tax is cheap on these compared to say, an E46 M3 or 350z.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

If the car is in storage for the winter, why would he tax it for a full year? ;)

Absolutely - its one of the reasons I chose it myself at the time!

Its €394 for six months on the "normal" tax rate for pre-2008 - and then just declare it off the road for winter? (I'm just not seeing the benefit of "classic tax" here if its €400 for six months)

Now the classic insurance at €500 is fantastic... I paid €2400 for my first year on the S2000 when I had it

I think he means classic insurance with Autoline, and that he taxes it it for 6 mths for €400, which is more or less equal to €394.

Apologies lads meant classic insurance, and yes I'm a stinge who pays quarterly tax ! Then declare it off the road.

Personally I don't see any reason why you shouldn't do it that way. If that's what suits you then fooken do it!

My daily is only €200 to tax for the year and I'm still tight enough to go quarterly !
