Nothing much more than a gravity defying drizzle here and unless it perks up later, can't see this amounting to much in this part of Galway at least. Maybe something a bit heavier later on this evening though as what is looking like a pretty sharp front moves in:

    Pretty damp in Parkmore, Galway

    Pretty damp in Parkmore, Galway

Same here, more due to the near 100% humidty and resulting lack of any evaporation than the rainfall (such as it is)

I’m hoping against hope this is the first system this “summer “ that has been overplayed rather than underplayed
Having said that we already have had about 10mm in atheny

I am expecting the rain will have passed Galway by 9am tomorrow.
Would anyone disagree with that? Obviously a few showers around but nothing persistent.

On course to break the 200mm mark in Castlebar, the only thing worse than the rain today is the 98% humidity.

Mod Note: I've deleted all those insulting and argumentative posts. Going forward lets keep on topic and civil.

    Tonight the wettest part.

Athenry will get 30mm id say and showers tomorrow would defintely break Augusts record.

Wel never beat the 33c in Ireland in Summer but we will break the rain records. Sigh

Whats the record for Athenry or anywhere in August?

Technically 615mm in Lough Eske in 1985 would be the current record.

Bring it on the rain, the salmon and sea trout are hanging around the bay's and estuaries to get a good run....

Last year was bad, so there's going to be bigger fish racing up this time...

    Beefing up nicely now.

Just some dark clouds around in Cork City, see we were removed from the warning so just expecting a few showers! These things always seem to go more West and north in the models about 2 days before the actual event, for future reference :p

NUIG weather station has 260.6mm for the month up to last night, 9mm so far today. With what is to come a good chance of breaking 300mm alright. Been an awful month...

Ive never seen a wetter month but it's still not close to the worst ever summer

  • Easy to see looking at the Sat 24 imagery as to why they are calling this a 'conveyor belt' type rain event. Just keeps coming & coming. More intense now here in West Mayo in the last while.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭Xenji

Showers are turning quite a bit heavier now in Castlebar, up at over 15mm of rain now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,834 ✭✭✭pauldry

Over 25mm in parts of the West so far today

Wow that is a huge amount of rainfall, I’m hoping Athenry doesn’t break any records this August. If the rainfall keeps up at this pace, the only outcome I can see is flooding..

A spectacularly sh*te day in Galway city today. Gravity defying sideways rain all day, with many more hours to come.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,668 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Sunny spells in Cork City with some clouds around, bit of a breeze but warm in the sun. We are meant to get some rain during the night, but looks like ME were spot on about the warnings (well by removing us anyway)
