can he be named once a criminal trial starts?
Open to correction on this (obviously) but I think the principle is that if the alleged victims are named, so too should be the alleged perpetrator.

The Brits have to everything they can to paint themselves as the hero's of history.
No accountability, piecemeil tokenism of one prosecution, we'll probably hear how ill this paratrooper now is and how he's unfit to stand trial.

    Glazers Out!

If there's a prosecution coming down the tracks, then are we even allowed to discuss the actions of Soldier F?

It wouldn't be nice if he got off on the basis that due to public comment, he couldn't get a fair trial. :(

Once it's not spoiled by people denying the injustice and saying "what about the ra?" and "Time to move on", I don't think so.

my guess is they'll say he was recently diagnosed with some illness, and his doctors will supply the necessary medical evidence. probably why they just choose him to prosecute.

a slap on the wrist will follow, and the usual branches of the establishment will declare him a mistreated hero.

Which is true, and yes I'm aware they are my words.

    ?? That's the whole point....

To a professionally trained armed soldier (hammer,as you put it) , innocent civilians in an urban environment do not look like targets ( nails,to use your jargon)

Do you accept that as fact?

That was my first thought too.

Probably a reprint, does the printed version of the Spectator come out on 16th?

hopefully a bloody painful one, leading to a slow death.

Yeah that's true - they weren't mad gunmen on a shooting spree, they were soldiers, highly trained NOT to be mad gunmen on a shooting spree.

Well if you were right then Bloody Sunday wouldn't have happened. Obviously they did look like targets.

Troubling yet not surprising to see the amount of people online that hold their army to the same standards as gutter terrorists

Dance on the head of a pin with semantics all you want.

You're talking about a fcuking atrocity committed against innocent civilians in this country, against the backdrop of some of this island's darkest hours.

You're not describing a ps4 session of call of duty.
    Show some decency and respect.
    Ffs!

A target like Gerard McKinney? Shot in the chest at Abbey Park. A soldier ran through an alleyway from Glenfada Park and shot him from a few yards away. Witnesses said that when he saw the soldier, McKinney stopped and held up his arms, shouting "Don't shoot! Don't shoot!", before being shot. The bullet apparently went through his body and struck Gerard Donaghy behind him

Innocent people were killed by soldiers. No need to start effing at me. I believe it's the person/people who put aggressive front line soldiers in a civilian environment that are more to blame.
