My club KISH is doing 2 'try a dive' nights these next Wednesdays. I just finished my CMAS 1* with them a couple of weeks ago. PM me if you need a number for contact. Wednesdays at 19:45 the 3rd and 10th of November at the Guiness swimming pool (which is nice a big, 25 metres long and about 12 feet deep).

    Hi.

I'm after checking Mydealpage.ie and other sites looking to no avail for a discount scuba diving course which is internationally recognised. I'm thinking of getting this under my belt in Ireland before going to Thailand in July.

    1) Does anybody know of any special deals going at the moment? I'd prefer an intensive course sometime in May or June.

    2) What is the best/most internationally respected course I could do?

    3) Where is the best place value-wise to purchase diving equipment? And in total what sort of money are we talking? Thanks

Hi I'm the chairman of true blue sub aqua club . We train and dive in Dublin and teach from beginners . There are shops in Dublin where you can get new dive gear or alternatively good second hand stuff on divegear.ie
    Hope this helps

The course you want to do is the PADI Open Water Diver course. While the other training agencies' courses are also recognised, they're not as widely known as PADI's.

    Where are you?

You can find PADI members here.

PADI courses are more for holiday diving than irish weather diving . Iv never had a problem showing my cards anywhere in the world . Highly recognised training agencies across the world would be PADI , CMAS , BSAC , TDI , IANTD , PASI . All of which teach in Ireland CMAS and BSAC are non profit whereas the others are company based for profit etc .

Check back on previous postings for info on same topic.

Yes, PADI would be your only option to gain a recognised dive licence before your trip.
If you could do the advanced as well then you would be better prepared for what you will face abroad.
On your return is the time to join a club, then you would find that you would get the best from your experience in Irish waters.

Remember that whatever you spend on the course here it is an investment in your safety and enjoyment, which can only happen if you have peace of mind.
If you cut back on input here you will not get the best from your trip.

    Best of luck

Are scuba courses seasonal or can they be done during the winter?

Cft clubs like our own usually start their training regime around now . Padi courses can be run year round but generally are weather dependant ,

Thought this might be more appreciated here rather than bargain alerts. This is who I am doing my open water with. The groups are small, in my case it was only myself and my wife with the exception of the first day where there was a kid doing DSD. I mean in terms of training, the pool itself is full of divers, mostly from oceandivers.

Discover Scuba Diving Session (€22) or Open Water Diver Certified Course (€245)

Just spotted this deal with Emerald Diving School:
    http://www.grabone.ie/dublin/emerald-diving-ireland-8?utm_source=tradedoubler&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=dublin

There is also a DSD for €27 option but the advanced open water for €189 looks like brilliant value.

    Folks,
I just wanted to highlight Seasearch Ireland which runs courses & workshops on marine life ID. There will be intro level courses held in Cork, Skerries and Galway this year.

These are basically organised as one day of classroom lectures and 2 dives to help people brush up this ID skills.

There are some workshops in specialist areas i.e. Nubibranchs in Galway in July with Bernard Picton the UK nudibranch expert coming down from Ulster and Seasquirts and Sponges in Cork in August with David Kipling .

We will also be holding some Seasearch dives where people can come along, do a dive and then try to record what they saw on their dive to confirm their Id skills.

I would put in links to some course descriptions but havn't enough posts (yet)

All courses and dives are open to qualified divers , Minimum qualifications are BSAC Sports Diver, PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, SAA Club Diver or CMAS 2 Star equivalent. You need to have done at least 20 dives of which 10 should have been in temperate sea water.

Could you PM a mod and have them post the link perhaps?

Edit: got a pm with details.

The link to course descriptions is:

    http://www.seasearch.org.uk/training.htm

the dates for the Cork observer course are 18/19th April and 16/17th for Galway

SeasearchIreland has a facebook page and also email seasearchireland@gmail.com
