    Hi

Did anyone see this during the 80's I'm nearly certain I saw it with Pat Kenny presenting.

Kinda sparked my interest in horror. From what I remember it showed a clip of the subway scene in Maniac and maybe the zombie trying to break the batrhroom door in Zombie Flesh Eaters?

Anyone able to confirm or possibly have a copy?

Your memory is not faulty, Kenny presented in a shock horror tone that was comical at the time and looked more so when I caught a clip of it some years later (I suspect it was on an RTE 2 clips show, not the internet). Such was the lack of archiving by the public on VHS I'd say you'll be lucky to find it now.

any old VHS transfers to digital that I have seen have been very hard to watch the quality was so bad.
I dont think VHS weathered well.

Good one. I vaguely remember that. I think it featured loads of clips like you say.

Kenny though, doing serious discusion of any kind, soon morphed into farce as usual and anything of any importance vanished up wanderly wagon's chimney...

    god spare us!

There are only two episodes of Today Tonight that I can remember. One of them is the "Video Nasties". Hysterical, reactionary nonsense.

I would be doubtful if a copy of this exists, apart from in RTE's vaults, as every scrap of video tape in Ireland would have been devoted to pirate copies of these nasty, nasty movies, fuelled by the aforementioned Today Tonight and similar waffle in the British media.

Out of curiousity, what is the general consensus surrounding these formerly banned movies?

Some of them I love like Zombie Flesh Eaters,Cannibal Holocaust,Last House on the Left,Cannibal Ferox or The Burning, some of them are muck like Cannibal Apocalypse,I Spit on Your Grave or The Beast in Heat.

Very much a mixed bag quality wise imo.

Same as above. Quality varies had intended to collect them all but changed my mind, don't think I really need to see Devil Hunter or Cannibal Terror. Still pick up the odd dvd if cheap.

The above box set is good

I MISS YOU...HUGS AND KISSES seems to be the most elusive of the DDP39, or whatever they were called...

i've always wondered what's in it to be included alongside the more infamous banned jobs like SS EXPERIMENT CAMP, DRILLER KILLER...

any help would be most appreciated. :)

Which are the best non-cannibal and non-zombie ones, would you know?

Anyway, I don't think I've seen too many of them, apart from The House by the Cemetery, which I thought was trul awful!

i do remember watching it back in 85. it featured clips from driller killer, i spit on your grave, zombie flesh eaters evil dead and SS experiment camp. it also featured a clip from a hardcore porn movie as well. there was an interview with a teenage boy who was quite nonchalant about the video nasties that he watched he knew they were just movies.

also a guard was interviewed as well and he had quite a different opinion about them!! i remember him saying that the type of people who watched them found the scenes of extreme violence and depravity to be titillating rather than shocking and that was bad for a persons well being.

everybody iknow in school watched it cos everyone knew full well the show would have loads of clips from the movies and that was the topic of conversation the next day.

The impact of video nasties on children cannot be overstated. The rampant corruption of attitudes and minds, particularly in urban areas and in the lower socio-economic areas, is very worrying at the moment. It is indefensible that any society should tolerate this for so long. There is indiscriminate piracy of unsuitable video films taking place in these areas at the moment. The law would seem to be powerless regarding the confiscation of these films and even arresting people for destroying young minds with such filth. The Minister is adopting a very cumbersome procedure by which this indiscriminate piracy of video films can be outlawed in this Bill. The cumbersome procedure of confiscation of goods will be difficult to implement if one must seek permission from the court initially in order to carry out a warrant, or to have a house searched and the equipment confiscated. It is very necessary that the Garda should have immediate powers of confiscation if suspicion is aroused that indiscriminate pornographic material is being shown in various locations in an urban area. I am not suggesting that it is confined to urban areas. The pattern and surveys indicate that the lower socioeconomic areas seem to be the areas where there is a tremendous amount of illegal piracy of video recordings.

the working classes are indeed more likely to embrace scratchy 10th generation copies of degrading filth. :D

I remember fat boy slim mary horney on RTE in the early '90s
justifying the censorship of video bill and not having a vague clue
on what she was blubbering about...

sorta like her on THE HEALTH SERVICE later. No wonder the
HSE is in the state it's in.

Missed this thread. I was just thinking about that programme, would love to see it again. I remember at the start they superimposed the Today Tonight title credits over the scene from Zombie Flesh Eaters where the girl sees the zombie coming out of the ground and it then bites her in the throat. They played the TT theme music over it too so it was kind of weird juxtaposition. Other clips that I remember them showing were two from Maniac, one strangling scene and the bit where the killer shoots the couple in a car with a shotgun. The bit from The Evil Dead where Ash chains his possesed girlfriend to the table and starts up the chainsaw and there were two clips from Driller Killer including the infamous head drilling scene.

They give a good insight into the over the top reaction at the time.

I remember this. One of only two TT episodes that i remember with any clarity, the other was on teenage drinking. Did anyone tape this when it was shown?
