Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

I want to buy a good suit. Where should I go?

    Hi guys I'm a male and I'll be in Dublin in a couple of weeks and I want to buy a new suit, my budget is €200. Where have you gone to your last suit in the city centre? Is it a good quality suit, value for money? Etc

    For that budget, I'd try M&S for a good off the peg suit.

    I got a nice fitted suit in river island. Its last me the past 2 years and I have never had a problem with it.

    My boyfriend got a great Jeff Banks suit in Debenhams recently. They always have a decent suit sale on.

    The Savile Row Company.com have suits for around €250 marked down from €700.
    I've bought shirts from them in the past and they were top notch,but can't vouch for the suits.

    I presume it means not fitted (as in not measured and cut to your size).

    D Trent, as others suggested get in early and blitz the Henry St. Square Debenhams, H&M, River Island, Top Shop and the ones in Jervis st. Shopping centre. You're bound to come up with something. Have lunch in the Epicurean food hall and get out before it gets packed.

    The earlier you are the less busy the shop workers are and they are incredibly helpful around there. If the shops empty, you'll practically have a personal shopper.

    Go to TM Lewin...you might sneak in at 200 notes but you will get a proper suit from a specialist. I bought one there a few months back and they couldn't have been more helpful.

    Yep. Charity shops are well worth a look.
    My fanciest shirt, an expensive M&S "tailored design" thing which go for €60+ new, cost me €5 in a charity shop on Camden Street. It looks like it was made especially for me and has no marks or defects whatsoever.

    That's mad. Who's the tailor you used to get measured and how much did he/she charge? And what website did you use to buy?

    ^ There are tonnes of sites that do this, mostly Asian based tailors in my experience which is how they can be price leaders.

    It can be very hit and miss in terms of quality. That said I've purchased several shirts through a few of these tailors which were of equal to superior quality to M&S's Sartorial range and about 10E cheaper per shirt as well.

    Suits I wouldn't personally do online if they're going to be MTM/bespoke as I'm more fussy about the fit and quality than most people I know and I have a few places I know work for me: M&S pure wool range, Baumler, Paul Smith (if significantly discounted) etc.

    Definitely going to give this a try in the future! At that price seems worth giving it a go!

    Having previously written Best Menswear off as a chain stuck in the '80s catering for Dads, I gave them a go and found they have a good range of brand name suits at decent prices and staff who know their stuff...(Dundrum branch but presume they all stock suits)

    Off the peg suits rarely fit perfectly, and they are cut in such a way so as to more or less fit most people. The problem is that you will almost certainly just get a mediocre fit.

    IMO, when buying suits, almost everybody needs to have it tailored afterwards so that it fits them perfectly. But almost nobody will consider the cost of this when buying a suit off the rack.
