It's fairly common to see rain evaporate before it reaches the ground even though the radar shows a return from higher levels where precipitation is present.

Rainfall radar can be a bit unreliable. Sometimes when there's heavy drizzle falling, the very opposite happens - it's wet at ground level but the tiny droplets of drizzle are not picked up by the radar.

It's ridiculous that, whoever designed the new radar, allowed the rainfall to block the outlines on the map.

It also shows heavier rain on the radar than is actually falling, It was never this bad,

Agreed. A very poor effort. Probably the worst rainfall radar display you'll find on any national meteorological website.

I see a note at the top of http://archive.met.ie to say it will soon be unavailable which I'm not happy about as I still don't like the replacement.
Re. the unexciting looking rainfall radar page is there any other websites showing the counties of Ireland as a background to a see through rainfall radar?

That's disappointing, it's much better than the current version.

I find Netweather's radar excellent. Much clearer than ME's and is updated in 5 minute increments.

Anyone got ideas on the best alternatives to Met Eireann? I have also been using the old website due to the poor design of the new one

That is very disappointing, I hope they don't get rid of it, I haven't used the new one at all in months, going on comments in here it never got much better since March when it launched. They don't listen to users it would seem, they must have made the new webpage for themselves. Can they not put their hands up and say we got it wrong, mea culpa, lets start again with the users input in mind. Or why not host the old and the new on the same server and let users choose what suits them best. I suppose they won't release figures of visitors number to old and new in the last 3 months or release the cost to the taxpayer for that new one. Spin it up as an outright success, the FG way.

m.met.ie is still working on the mobile for me.

The archive site on the laptop is giving the same failed message as you're getting.

I presume the mobile site will go the same way fairly soon

At 10:55 I loaded the radar page and it was up to date, any subsequent clicks are giving the 1.1 App error. Since they announced they were retiring the old site I have been trying to use the new one but its just dreadful. I may use the m.met.ie on the PC and phone as a workaround until I find something else. Very disappointing that they took this route, I have completed multiple surveys for them over the years and emailed in suggestions, complaints and faults. I can only hope that they overhaul the new site asap.

I just loaded the new site on my phone, www.met.ie, IOS 12, via the browser, the very first page it loads is the rainfall radar, is there any way to see the entire island of Ireland at once, I can only see 1/3 of the island at once, can't zoom out any further. - Apologies if this has already been discussed on this thread, I stopped following it a while back.

Yes I see archive.met.ie working back again. I actually realized in the morning when I checked what weather will be for the rest of the day.

@Auld Jim Halpin : I agree old website works much better on mobile than new one, especially radar subpage (http://archive.met.ie/latest/rainfall_radar.asp). Old website is simple and fast but probably not carrying all modern metrics allowing traffic monetization.

Apart from the look and feel, I've found the met.ie website has become really inaccurate the past while. Gets it pretty wrong most days and changes forecast for the next few days every few hours. Is it the time of year that makes it so hard to predict with any accuracy ? It's saying it's dry on cork until 6 pm yet been raining the past hour

Old site not working via the Safari browser on an iPhone. Entering archive.met.ie causes it to jump to the new site this evening. First time this has happened. Was getting the 404 errors earlier in the day on alot of the old site.

Think the new site is awful. Really detest those openstreetmap type depictions for the landmasses. Isobar lines barely visible as a result.

It doesn't pass muster. The interface is clunky and awkward, not to mention sluggish. Met Éireann need to bin this version permanently.
