I don't remember such a haily period of weather. Several days now of decent hail showers.

Sunday looks interesting with the low quite close to the country and quite breezy if not windy overland from the SW / S with bands of quick moving showers moving up over the country, probably an occluded front also. Milder then of late with more humidity. Lots of low level and deep layer shear available with the jet overhead by then. Cooler uppers and the strong sun probably kicking off convection leading to some heavy blustery shower's with hail and lightning a possibility, more so in the Western half of the country . Charts will change a bit but looking decent for convection. An interest to see what comes of the set up.

Real torrential rain in north Donegal now....sky extra dark.

The northwest looks very good for convective showers Sunday Afternoon with heavy downpours, Isolated Thunderstorms, hail and flooding. First storm chase of the season.

    Day 2 Convective Outlook
    VALID 06:00 UTC Sun 09 May 2021 - 05:59 UTC Mon 10 May 2021

    ISSUED 21:03 UTC Sat 08 May 2021

    ISSUED BY: Dan

The broad upper pattern on Sunday sees a longwave trough to the west of Europe, with a strong southwesterly flow on its forward side. This will encourage advection of a warm, moist airmass from southwest to central Europe with time. A surface low will remain just to the west of Ireland, while a quasi-stationary cold front will straddle central Britain before finally clearing eastwards to the North Sea on Sunday night.

... SUNDAY AFTERNOON: IRELAND / NORTHERN IRELAND / SCOTLAND ...
A rather messy evolution with various occlusions bringing areas of cloud and showery outbreaks of rain northwards at times. However, if sufficient cloud breaks / insolation can aid diurnal heating, then several hundred J/kg CAPE (moreso NW Ireland) is possible. Convective overturning with time will likely aid the development of deeper convection, in an environment with 30-40kts 0-6km bulk shear. This will, in theory, be supportive of organised convection, with a couple of cells perhaps exhibiting supercellular characteristics. The main focus is primarily Ireland where conditions overall will be more favourable - deeper convection, backed low-level winds etc - whereas convection in Scotland will likely be a little shallower in height. As such, if an organised storm can develop it may pose the threat of hail 1.5-2.0cm in diameter - however, have refrained from introducing a SVR given low confidence on sufficient surface heating etc.

Will see if sparks are produced tomorrow, will be some very heavy localized showers in the W and NW especially, some possibly producing hail. Best potential looks like the W and NW for thunderstorms. Lots of shear and vorticity available tomorrow , maybe a funnel will be spotted.

I think talk of supercells in the outlook above is a bit ott. Interesting alright in the northwestern half of the country but I doubt if we'll get any reports of supercells or anything like it. They sometimes like to uptalk these events as if they're talking about Kansas and not Killahsandra.

    Maybe they do sometimes.
They are also one of the most active contributors to the forum and their informative and upbeat posting is what draws me and many other regular visitors to the forum. The forum would be a ghost town sometimes without them.
From years of observing their cheerful and enthusiastic posts compared to the frequent snideness of others it's clear who is happier in their own skin.

Edited to retract the last comment, which was made due to misunderstanding who GL was referring to.

Pretty sure GL was referring to the forecast issued by convectiveweather.co.uk (and not the poster you are referring to).

Yes, nothing at all to do with Meteorite, who posts some very helpful charts so the rest of us don't have to go and look for them.

Sincere apologies, completely took you up wrong.

Going to head for Mullaghmore area sligo during the afternoon. Looks like a good area to watch these cells moving up from the south, southwest.

As mentioned in the spring thread, lots of ominous clouds but nothing much happening so far, just a few brief showers. Can see a lot of scud and a half baked shelf cloud on a shower passing to my east which shows there's decent convection happening at least

Few bangs and flashes here now in SW Donegal

Interesting that TORRO have highlighted Ireland today. Worth clicking into the link to their website for the Convective Discussion for today.
