There was a noticeably blunt outro when he didn't take up Eamon's invite to launch into an anti-Trump diatribe. Instead Gabriel gave a well balanced view of US politics, recognising that there are views beyond the "how much do you hate Trump" question. He also nicely described the media's role in all of this. Very well done, sir.

Yeah I thought his few comments at the end on America were more insightful than any of the journalists Eamon does have on. Eamonn was definitely hoping and expecting some Trump bashing but it didn't come :pac:

Do you reckon Eamon might have some sort of fetish about Brexit ? Could he be deriving some form of sexual gratification from talking about it ?

His interview with the Guardian a few weeks ago seemed to get some traction.

He doesn't carry much water for the Democrats either, fwiw.

Poor Eammo will be light on subject matter in January once Brexit happens and Trump is gone.

He really has really dragged the arse out of those two issues for months and months this year.

The one last week with the author and the one the other day about the famine with Ferriter were great I thought.

It's easy to forget but Giles is 80 years old!

Got the vaccine over in the UK already as a result.

I enjoyed the chat with Dustin in today’s episode.

covid/sweden/tegnell, trump, boris/cummings...all with a very obvious biased slant.

That's basically it. A boring repetitive sh*t show.

    In the last 8 days.
Kerry Babies, Covid in Germany, Dustin the Turkey, The Irish Famine, The Running Book have all had dedicated shows. Not to mind football content.

Bemoaning a Current Affairs show discussing highly significant current affairs topics and ignoring 5 shows which are one offs is indeed boring and repetitive.

The last 8 days has also had individual shows on Covid, Trump, Brexit, Covid again, Covid again, Brexit again and then Brexit again.

Has he been on since his row with Giles when they were picking various best 11s?

In a time when Brexit is coming to a head, covid is getting worse and Trump is being mental.

What do you want from a current affairs show if you don't want current affairs?

I'm almost certain he's been on since then, but not that many times. Would be good to have him back, as much as I like Giles

Well to be fair, the main tv news have been talking about nothing but Brexit for 3 years, Trump for 4yrs and CV19 for the last 9 months......all the time.

I think he should have covered The mandalorian season 2 finale.

Yep, except it’s a good few episodes in a short space of time. Just repeat and the same guests.

The Tell me how fella suggested there was a load of original content in the space of 8 days, in reality it was mostly trump, Covid, brexit, again.

It would also really help if he had different commentators.

In each of those, what stood out? What kind of revelation, 8 days, 3 x Covid and 3 x brexit? Even the single trump? What was revelatory about even one of them? What was worth listening to that we didn’t hear before or wouldn’t be on the most mainstream of radio news bulletins.

Remember that old quality over quantity adage? Dunphy doesn’t, probably because all we hear about is Tesco and he has f*ck all else to do.

Ah here give it a rest will you. I don't know what stood out in each of those episodes because I only listen to the few that interest me. If none interest you then I suggest you save yourself from getting so worked up by simply unsubscribing from the podcast.

Saw on twitter that the stand is taking a break for Christmas, so I assume it'll only be reposts for the next couple of weeks...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭omerin

Why repost episodes when they are available by scrolling through the list of them? He keeps on doing this when he is away, bloody annoying.

    sponsor contract commitment I suppose

fair enough considering there is nobody forcing anyone to listen to them.

not listen to them, but I have auto download on, happy to support him but he's done it 48 times when there is no need, can't see why it would have anything to do with his contract with Tesco. I think I've been sold a pup and with regards to my data limits, now more then ever, every little helps :D

With the new variant of Covid and the Brexit deal and the fact he can't go anywhere over Christmas he might find time to do a couple of hours over the holidays. I would actually like Tomas Ryan's interpretation of the state of play right now.

A Tomas Ryan joint has just dropped.

Haven't listened to it yet but no doubt it's packed full of misery porn.

I suppose that he's blaming everything on the 2 weeks or so that restaurants were back open....

I don't think zero covid is politically possible, but to be fair to Thomas Ryan he was calling it exactly right all through the Summer and lots thought he was demented - the virus will return and there'll be multiple rolling lockdowns to contain it.

Cue the cries of "misery porn" and "doom monger" when in actual fact all he was was completely right.

that's the thing imo - Ryan never offered a solution for how it could be achieved here on this island that shares a border with the north - just went on about it that it should be pursued as a strategy - which offers nothing really except some sort of repetitive point.

he also never suggested / predicted that the high levels of the current time would come about in this timeframe.
