With the lifting of restrictions, the Lads were delighted to be able to meet up for a drink...

After more than 3 months following my sparrowhawks' pair, I am pleased to report that the chicks have started fledging...I have counted 3 chicks but I suspect there could be 1 or 2 more, just going by the look of them.

I will try to confirm the number over the next few days. Not an easy task though considering that the observation is from the road and the action takes place at the top of the trees.

I believe the gatekeeper is actually a meadow brown. The gatekeeper has two white dots surrounded by black almost like a figure of 8.

My sparrowhawk chicks continue growing. They are still hanging around the site where the nest is. 2xF, 1xM.

It won't be long before they leave to live their own adventures, what an amazing lock down project this has been. I have followed them nearly every day since their parents were mating and nest building. They will be missed, hopefully I will see them around in my neighborhood.

I was removing a pile of rocks from the back garden today, found 19 newts. Painstaking work, to avoid crushing them. Thankfully, they just freeze when spotted, so easy enough to lift and move them. Moved them all up to a micro-pond area, plenty of stones and wood to hide under there, no known casualties.

didn't think we had newts in ireland, learn something new everyday

I knew we had them but I've never seen one - I thought they'd be much bigger! And I also thought that was a lizard, but I can see that the shape of the head is different and the tail much more flexible.
