Own Modem

05.05.2019 15:20 #1
hi,
i have VF Fibre at the moment, however i would like upgrade my modem so support better firewalling etc.

im looking at getting a fibre modem from Fritzbox.
they have two types
GPON and AON
https://en.avm.de/products/fritzbox/fritzbox-5490/technical-specifications/
https://en.avm.de/products/fritzbox/fritzbox-5491/technical-specifications/

which type can be used with the fiber you are providing?

i have tried bridging mode, but its just not working out the way i want.

understand you may not be able to support the modem, but if you can let me know which type of fiber it is, i can hopefully work out the rest myself.

thanks

I’m interested in-signing up for Vodafone SIRO but wasnt able to identify if there is a modem /bridge mode within the NTE/CPE they provide ?

Can you post details of your modem and any screenshots of version with modem mode.

Thanks

You don't need a GPON or other fibre enabled unit. Use their ONT, it's mandatory. Buy any cable router that supports vlan tagging on WAN and off you go.

Hi there,

Apologies for the delay.

The fibre is terminated at ONT at your home, and the ethernet connection from ONT connects to the WAN interface on the modem. You can’t replace ONT
I'd advise getting in touch with tech on 1907, there may be other ways to achieve this. You'd need to advise tech if you have voice or TV service with us.
