Run in Dun Laoghaire

06.03.2016 23:40 #1
If there's another election this year, will you have a candidate to run in the Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown constituency or do you feel Richard Boyd Barrett has the 'alternative' vote tied down here?

I would have voted for a SocDem candidate if possible this time, but there wasn't one running.

I'm a volunteer with the Rathdown group, and we're looking at the same question near to you.  We were brought together by head office, based on people that signed up to the Get Involved page and are planning an event, leaflet and canvass for the coming months.

The policy is that if there is a group in an area that can self-organise (with support from head office), and if that group can create a structure to support a candidate; at that point (months) there will probably be more formal guidelines in terms of membership/constitution/candidate selection to give a suitably detailed answer.

Hope that helps.

I would have liked to see Carol Hunt as the SD candidate in Dun Laoghaire.

Is it possible she will consider that next time?

I have no idea.

What I do know is that the candidate selection & branch operations are still being discussed and agreed between members, as is the concept of a SocDem member and what it means for someone to be a member.  In the first period up to the election the focus was on the election and now it's moving to a more organisational development discussion/process.  Your route to engaging with that process is the 'get involved' link above, it'd be great to have you with us.

We have now set up a branch in Dun Laoghaire! If you want to get involved or just follow along you can follow them on Facebook:

Or sign up at http://socialdemocrats.ie/get-involved/ and select Dun Laoghaire as your constituency to get added to the branch's mailing list.

Our ambition is to run a candidate here (and in many more constituencies) in the next election... whenever that might be!

Is Carol Hunt left wing?  She's never struck me as left wing at all.
