To be fair, this was certainly the case in the U.S., until about twenty years ago. They're still frowned upon in certain quarters even today

While I can understand why some people might not like winter (I'm not fond of the cold, but there are many other aspects of the season I like, most of which have been mentioned by earlier posters) I can't imagine not liking autumn, at least if like me you like outdoor activities. Just brisk enough
