Nissan are offering €4000 scrappage on the Qashqai 1.5l d. I haven't checked into what their straight deal offer would be but I think at best it would be 23k ish and I don't think I would make €2k on my car.

So prices would be - €27,000 cash for the ix35 2l d vs €21,500 for the entry level Qashqai 1.5l d with scrappage. No point going for any higher spec Qashqai as I might as well go for the ix35 then with the small price diff.

My heart says the ix35 but my head says to avail of scrappage while it's on offer. In terms of spec both cars seems similar, so in my mind, the advantages of the Hyundai are looks, engine size and warranty. However I also know I liked the look of the Qashqai when it first came out but now I think they're dated, so I could see the same happening in my mind with the ix35.

There is going to be a 1.7l ix35 but I don't know the release date of this or whether it would qualify for scrappage. From what I've read it's likely to have the current 2l price.

There's also the possibility that I could trade the Qashqai against the ix35 in a year or two. If I bought the ix35 and it was reliable I could see myself keeping it for 5 years+.

What do you folks think? Do I keep €5k+ in my pocket now and go for the Nissan - possibly trading it in a year or two? Or just 'invest' in the ix35 and try to sell my '99 for cash?]]>
