I'm all for good news for the town. The only questions/concerns I would have when an international company sets up like this in the area:

Will they be employing people from the Sligo area?

or Will they have their own workers and just transfer them from one of their other locations?

I also think I heard on the radio news this morning that the calibre of people they will be looking for are highly educated and there is a high renumeration package for the candidates - where does that leave the not so highly educated unemployed people in Sligo? - wouldnt it be more rejoyceful for companies to come into Sligo which can offer employment to all walks of life?

When the reporter asked how people could apply for the jobs the spokesman for the company said there were already people that had applied for the jobs

Hello,

I've recently finished my degree in Chemical Physics and I'm looking into both the ME and M.Eng.Sc in UCD for materials science and engineering. I'd love to talk to someone who is familiar with one or both.

In particular I'd like to find out is there a major difference in career paths after. I know the modules differ slightly, and that the ME is longer but also including work placement, as well as what sounds like a longer research project. They both appear to be suitable for both engineering and science graduates.

I have work experience working in an academic environment, hence I find the chance to get industrial experience pretty tempting. Any advice would be really appreciated, even if it's sharing experience on academic vs industry!

Cheers!

Hi Guys,

I have studied for 3 years in Ballyfermot, I went for a diploma (originally for the degree) I didn't pass the course though because I didn't pass animation which is mandatory.

I have never stopped practicing and have done some freelance digital painting for people but nothing that would shine on a CV.

I have reached a somewhat decent standard even though I still have plenty to learn, and wonder if anyone who's familiar with the industry or hopefully in it, tell advise me on what they think my next best option would be.

I'm currently working full time in IT just to keep money coming in. I'm 24 and still living at home purely because I don't want to get wrapped in bills and such and get stuck in that rut, though I feel I already am in one.

I need to get some momentum back up and any help would be much appreciated.

can probably find some of my work if you google pauldeasydesign.

It won't let me add links here.

Thanks

Recently dropped out of first year of an Engineering degree in UCD just after Xmas because I didn't do so well in exams and was strongly recommended to repeat first year as there's no point continuing with a poor foundation. I have a space reserved for next year so I don't have to apply to the CAO again.

I've applied for a few E&I apprenticeships as I'm told it is highly relevant in todays industry and also more interesting than other trades and also that it has the best employment opportunities above other trades...? I have had a response from one employer so far with an interview coming up soon.

Any advice on whether or not I should really be looking at an apprenticeship at all?
Where I should be looking for employment with an apprenticeship?
Any other advice appreciated, just want some other opinions.
Thanks in advance

I'm so confused on what to do next year and after reading about it i think it sounds great but I cant find any review from students to see how it is? I am looking to get into the media industry but this is the only available course I can get into from my Fetac Award. Any info on the course would be appreciated.

Hi all,

A very good friend of mine wishes to get into writing of some sort. She's qualified in English, and has a tremendous grasp of both grammer and language, but is struggling a little to find her way into the industry.

Do you guys have any tips on where to maybe free-lance to gain experience, and if so, what sites/magazines expect from those starting off? Possible places to work? Copyright houses in the country/online?

Anything to help her would be greatly appreciated,

I am a recent masters graduate in Business and Entrepreneurship and one thing I have noticed is that a lot of entrepreneurs actively go out of their way to find opportunities, so I figured why not bring the opportunities to the entrepreneurs yourself.

Is there anything in your industry that bothers you that you wish could be done differently, something that you dont have the time or resources to do yourself. Well this blog will be a space where you can do that anonymously or named.

This site has not been set up to make money, but has been set up to encourage innovation and needed change in our industries. The site is only 2 days old at present, so this really is the beginning.

Obviously being the entrepreneurial forum I open to suggestions on how to make this better or any thoughts in general on it

http://industryproblems.wordpress.com/

Just heard about this on the radio;

"In "Food, Inc.," filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that's been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of e coli--the harmful bacteria that cause illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield Farms' Gary Hirschberg and Polyface Farms' Joe Salatin, "Food, Inc." reveals surprising--and often shocking truths--about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here."

http://www.foodincmovie.com/
