June '10: I have updated the rules and requirements on this thread.

Right guys, a thread for anyone who gives grinds and wants some exposure. If you know of someone who does, you can tell them about this and get them here too.

The rules:
One post per person. If you've already posted and know of someone else who wants to be here, tell them to register and post.
If you want your post edited/removed after the two day edit limit, PM one of the moderators with the details, and we'll sort you out. If you make a new post with revised details, please let me know.
This thread is only for contact details, so as such, the information you must provide is;

Subject(s):
Location:
Grinds in Students Home? Yes/No
Contact Name:
Email:

Any other info you wish to provide (Phone no., more precise area) is purely up to yourself.

Any institutions will be smacked quite hard if they post. I'm going to be a little more lax than in the past. If you post your rates, you must make an effort to keep them up-to-date. If someone PMs me saying that your rate is actually €50/hour, when your post says €20, your post is gone.

A guideline price is always helpful. Please state whether you have been Garda vetted or not, if you are offering private classes to individuals.

This thread will be periodically cleaned up and any posts over a year old will be removed. The thread is quite long now, so we need to enforce some form of turnover instead of people having to trawl through everything. If your post gets removed in a cleanup, please repost it. This also ensures that people's position in the list isn't static, for a bit of fairness.

PM me if you have any queries/suggestions. Don't post here.

If you would like to delete your post if you've stopped giving grinds, please go to your post, click the "report post" button (bottom left) and state that you wrote the post and you would like it removed. It's a lot easier for the mods to find your post if you report it than if you send a PM.- Piste

(17 Sept 2010)

Please do not use coloured fonts / oversize writing. It's not a competition to see who can create the
most garish ad!!

Mods are tired of cleaning these up, and if you insist on doing this we may just delete your ad altogether, you have been warned!!

Hello everyone,
First of all I wish you a happy new year 2025

Let me introduce myself: I'm a mathematics teacher at the Lycée (educational institution for students typically aged between 15 and 18) in France. We have an Erasmus agreement which gives me the opportunity to travel in EU countries. I'd like to take advantage of this to shadow a colleague, ideally a math teacher in Ireland, to observe and compare our practices.

Specifically, my request is as follows: do you know of anyone who would be willing to welcome me to their school to observe them, and who would be interested in discussing their teaching practices? I'll be self-sufficient in terms of accommodation. I'm aiming for one week in June 2025.

Also, if you're a Francophile and interested, I'd be delighted to welcome you back to France, even if it's just for a sightseeing visit. I live in a very pretty region by the sea ;)

I'm posting my request here because I saw that this was an exchange forum where teachers were involved. If you have any ideas of people or associations to whom I could send my request, I'd be grateful.

A pleasant evening to all

Hi everyone

I am glad to let you know that starting the end of January I will be leading 6 French Beginners Courses for adults throughout the region. These courses are aimed at total beginners or people who have already done some French but would like to freshen things up.

The classes are very interactive and practical so you get to chat in French in every class with myself and the other students. There are also some listening, grammar and vocabulary exercises than we do either in class (thanks to your weekly notes that are provided in class) or at home as home practice. All the notes taken during the class are uploaded on a Google classroom so you can give your full attention to the interaction in class and revise at home afterwards.

In Strandhill, Tubbercurry and Carrick-on-Shannon we will be starting right from the beginning with Module 1 on introducing oneself, sharing likes/dislikes, we will go through the numbers and the alphabet as well as some very useful tips regarding pronunciation.

In Ballymote and Boyle we will tackle Module 3 on Food so how to order at the café, explain a recipe in French and do some shopping at the market. Finally in Sligo we will explore the module 4 on Fashion and Sales.

So if you are interested to join any of these courses or simply want more info, feel free to get in touch (info@myfrenchteacher.eu or Whatsapp/call 087 785 6252). You can see the info on prices/dates/location in the picture underneath.

If you want to learn French in a fun and interactive class setting with different activities throughout to make sure you learn plenty and you do not get bored, this course might just be for you! And if you need some convincing you are more than welcome to check out the reviews that past and current students have left on Google and Facebook. Feel free to email if you want to be added to my Newsletter, I only send a newsletter twice a year.

Oh, and you get a €10 discount if you register before the 5th of January!

Voilà!

Hope to see you soon,

Julien Porzadny

Bonjour tout le monde,

I wanted to let you know that starting end of January I will be leading three 8-week courses aimed to help any Higher or Ordinary Leaving Cert Students to prepare for their French Oral Leaving cert exam.

This course will take place at three different locations:

Starting on 23/01/24 @ The Spool Factory in Boyle from 4:40pm to 5:40pm (max 10 students) - €95 (with a €10 discount if you register before 05/01/24)

Starting on 24/01/24 @ The Yeats Society buildings in Sligo from 4:40pm to 5:40pm (max 14 students) - €95 (with a €10 discount if you register before 05/01/24)

Starting on 25/01/24 @ The Family Resource centre in Ballymote from 4:45pm to 5:45pm (max 14 students) - €80

Each week students will get tips/best practices on how to tackle the oral exam, some relevant vocabulary/expressions and advice on pronunciation. There will be some very useful weekly notes provided to bring home and help students study for the exam. All students will be asked to do a weekly oral preparation based on the weekly theme which I will personally correct. But most importantly, every week there will be plenty of time to practice speaking French either with myself or other students from the course. On top of that the classes are quite small so you will get plenty of personal attention throughout the 8 weeks.

The usual topics for the Oral will be covered. From myself to my family, from my hobbies to where I live, my future, my holidays, etc. We will also talk about how to pick a good document and how to prepare for it. So usually there is about 20 to 25 minutes of what I would call "theory" (presentation, tips, pronunciation, etc.) and over half an hour of supervised practice time all in French (with relevant personalised advice to the students). By the way, there won't be any classes during the February mid-term and we will finish up with a 100% practice session the week prior to the actual exam!

Now what about me and why should you trust me with this? In very short: I am a French native with 17 years of experience as a French secondary school teacher in Ireland. Needless to say this means I am Garda Vetted and recognised by the Teaching Council. Most importantly, I have experience as an Oral examiner for the actual French Leaving Cert exam and I have ran (and improved) this course since 2007.

Voilà!

If you would like to register or have any questions at all regarding the course you can either email me (info@myfrenchteacher.eu) or Whatsapp/Text/Call (087 785 6252). Oh and I am also available for face to face (within 20/25km of Ballymote) and online grinds...

Un grand merci and all the best to you all for your Leaving Cert exam!

A bientôt,

Julien Porzadny

Hi everyone. I finished my BA in Spanish and German back in 2016 and have been working as an ESL teacher in Spain ever since. I honestly just applied for the job because I had no idea what I wanted to do after I had finished college and this seemed like an easy way to improve my Spanish and earn some money. However, I soon realized that I had a genuine love and talent for teaching, which makes me want to apply for the PME over the next couple of years. The thing is, at least in my county there are very few schools that offer both Spanish and German, so I'm considering doing the HDip in either French or Nua Gaeilge in UCC to improve my chances of employment. Has anyone got any experience with either of these two courses?

I've just started out as a freelance translator (FR/ES>EN) and am looking to see are there any fellow freelance translators in the Limerick or Munster area. Any language pairs at all. I'd love to know how others in the field are getting on and to establish a bit of a network / camaraderie if possible. It can get awful isolated sitting at home in front of the laptop most of the day!

Hi all,

So basically I want to join military obviously and my real dream is to get into a special operations unit (which I am aware is one of the hardest things on earth to do but hey, someones gotta do it..). So i was initially looking at moving to US and then joining their military, SF is a lot easier to get into there (tier 2 units) however I really dont think US is for me so Im narrowed down to either Irish DF or British Army or French Legion Etrangere (FFL)...

So we all know the most amount of action you will get in the Irish Army is going to the shooting range, and we really dont fully know if the ARW actually get any action at all. The whole Irish Army just seems to be a practice practice and then keep practicing... for nothing.

Im not willing to sacrifice 5 years of my life to an army that is going to do F all..
(I dont consider sitting on a Lebonese border post with binoculers action).

Next option is British, but F that..

So next up we have French. Common misconception: The legion is full of murders. No. Not true. Interpol backround check everyone that enters the legion.
So these guys are very well respected and very very good when it comes to combat. I will be able to get some ACTUAL action, no high vis blue helmets, no sitting on my ass all day during deployments. The best unit I can join are the Commando Parachute Group (GCP) or Commando Mountain Group (GCM). These two units are basically tier 2 units however French SOC do not recognise any tier 2 units unlike many other countries. They only recognise tier 1 units. An example of a T1 unit for those who dont know are the likes of DEVGRU, 1SFODD, 22SAS etc. However, my dream is for a T1 unit, but T2 will do I guess... But the thing is, the legion is 5 years away from home, family and all my loved ones who I will miss growing older etc... Its 40 days leave yearly (after the first year).

So really just asking for anyone who has experience with Irish Army or FFL to help me, I'm struck. Anyone who wants to see what the FFL GCP is, just search French GCP and you will see a general idea of what sort of level they are on..

Thanks

Hi,
I missed a language exam this morning as I'm ill. I'm going to the doctor as soon as I can move again, I think that I caught a virus.

I have looked at the book of modules for this module and it doesn't have information regarding repeating. It states the following:

"Requirements for Supplemental Examination: Marks in passed element(s) of Continuous Assessment are carried forward, Failed element(s) of Continuous Assessment must be repeated (as prescribed by the Department.)."

From others knowledge and experience, when does supplemental examination occur, is it August like the other modules, or do the departments arrange exam so it could be held this weekend?

If it is any relevance the exam was first year French. Any one have experience similar to this regarding illness and missing a exam?
(worth the majority of the module, missing it means a fail.)

I will inform my professor once I have a doctors note, and I'm sure he will be annoyed to hear this if it means he had to re arrange the exam again like at the weekend or something.

Thanks in advance for any information on the procedure regarding missing language exams.

So I've just finished the leaving cert and I'm strongly considering International Business (French) in DCU. The one thing I'm a bit apprehensive about is the year abroad. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some more information about how long you go for (how many weeks in total), where you stay, what the workload is like etc.

I just have to make up my mind whether I want to do this course or just Business on it's own in DCU.

Thanks in advance!
