Just listening to the Last Word and they're on about the e-voting machines. Instead of scrapping them, would it be possible to convert them into something useful?

Anyone have specifications on the hardware or images of the machines themselves? Are they touch screen, or are they button operated? Just can't seem to find too much info on the actual specifications of them.

Would be interested in finding another use for them rather than in the bin.

Today it has been finally announced that they are to offload the e voting machines in Ireland by a yet undetermined method.

What id like to establish among members here is to wheather you feel that the concept of e voting is a good or bad idea in general, regardless of the mistakes that were made with them in Ireland. Its obvious that there is a lack of transparency and that they are not suitable for use here, but that perhaps is alot to do with the particular machine or system that was purchased for use.

Im adding a poll.

The purpose of the poll is to determine if you agree with the concept of e voting, you may not approve of the debacle of the e voting machines and the maagment of their implemintation that has being well documented now here in Ireland, but if you think that if it were properly managed and designed to suit or constitution and have relivent transparency would you like to see them used?

Mods: Ive posted this here rather than the political forum to get the opinions of people that would be of a more broad representation of the population rather than people with a particular interest in politics

Personally, im undecided. I can see both positives and negatives in them.

7,500 electronic voting machines which cost €50 million to purchase and €650,000 to store between 2004 and 2007 may be scrapped. The reason the machines were never used was because of "concerns about the possibility of tampering with the machines and the lack of a paper trail". "the possibility of tampering with the machines and the lack of a paper trail" should have been the first question asked before spending €50,000,000 unbelievable

Does anyone here know who ordered the electronic voting machines.

50 million is the approximate amount 30,000 low paid Public Sector workers, those on under €30k a year will contribute with the new levy.

What consultants were used because you know our Gov love them.

Is there any connection or holiday offical function where Gov were wined and dined and lured in.

What politicians trousered brown envelopes.

Why does our Gov decide something, hand over cash, and then wonder afterwards if it is viable.

Sorry don't mean to hijack other thread.
