Hi,

I thought because I wanted some specific advice it would be better to start a new thread than put it into another thread... and I wouldn't know where to write anyway....

I'm 20, I've studied silversmithing and jewellery making to a pretty good level. Can sew very well (have done 2 years studying fashion design) and have done art since I can remember (painting, drawing) and have no problems with drawing or painting from images but I really want to develop MY paintings and drawings... both in a style that is mine and subject.
I'm good at keeping a sketchbook, which probably could do with more focus but I have lots of ideas in my head about paintings or pieces I would like to do and no idea how to execute them... (I've always wanted to do sculpture but still don't know where to start!)

Can anyone give me advice? I don't want to do a degree course but other courses are an option but I can't afford half the art courses out there - materials are expensive enough. I've taught myself a lot of other things from books, so maybe there is a book or two that could substitute a course?

Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone,
I'm just wondering whether anyone knows of organisations that help artists to find work or upskill or just generally support the industry?

I've been crafting (and selling) on a small scale for years and I'm currently getting a formal art qualification. My course is something of a first step course but I'm not sure I see the benefit in continuing to study when I'll just have to go back out selling at markets again afterwards. None of my customers have ever asked to see my qualification before buying a piece!

That being said, maybe there is something I'm not aware of. Are there organisations to help artists with employment or is everyone (excepting the odd graphic designer) basically an entrepreneur?

I've been looking at the Center for Creative Practices but they don't seem that interested in Irish artists, most of their support seems to be geared at migrants. It would be odd if foreign artists have more support in Ireland than homegrown ones.

Hi,

I am currently writing a comic book, with 3 issues out of a planned first run of 9 finished so far.

The comic is a noir superhero story, involving government and corporate sponsored super heroes, defending a failing city from corporate take over, supernatural entity's and other dangers.

With this project, I'm hoping to add some small, fresh ideas into both Irish comics, and superhero story's in general.

I am hoping to find an artist who can do this for cheap, or ideally free, and we can split the revenue down the road. I am a game development student myself, so money is tight, and I hope others will understand this.

If anyone wants to read a sample script, PM me, and Ill send one to you in an email

Any other questions, reply below.

Thanks,

Do you have the personality to paint on people? Since Nina Moore gave a workshop in Cork in May last year, 130 artists and models have taken part in this extraordinary art form. Nobody gets paid for taking part. Artists, models and photographers all work for free. The only money that changes hands is a donation towards the overheads of the building that we use, and the expenses of the facilitator if there is one. The next bodypainting takes place in October. Interested in being a model or an artist? Please send me a PM.
