Actually, that photo looks like it was taken on North Cumberland st where the shooting happened. Surely if the shooters were using that 7 series they would have made off in it rather than on foot.

Maybe it is just connected to a lesser extent

The Gardaí did incorrectly refer to the 7 series as a 5 series in the media as they have asked for info on anyone who saw "a black BMW 5 Series with a 02-D-39051" registration.

Apparently the 7 series was the original getaway car but failed to start so they made off in an Octavia instead.

It started - then cut out on them. This happend twice.
    So they left on foot.

A 7 series is an interesting choice for a getaway car.

Mark my words, this will be tendered (At huge cost), won by GoSafe (With no competition) and cost the country millions in the next 5 to 10 years.

The reality is, you can build an ANPR set up for about €150 and all you need is some processing of the data captured. Does this reg have Insurance / Tax or NCT? No to any? Issue a fine.

This is so simple to implement it could literally be done in 3 months, and that's being generous. A couple of static sites and a mobile check or two for good measure.

Joined up thinking just don't exist here.

A lot of new garda cars in the last 6 years have ANPR cameras which alert the officers if a car is not on their Tax and insurance database. The database is updated about once a week.

The Garda feed is boring as hell today. Loads of pictures of people behind a podium. Not a pretty face among them. :D

That wouldn't have passed muster on the Bangernomics thread with no NCT.

I wonder what went through Shane coates and stephen suggs heads (before concrete) when they robbed a 156 gta for a bank job
Like honestly, even I wouldn't rob an Alfa to use as a getaway car :p

Citroen XM would be the best getaway car. You'd be waiting for 3 minutes for the car to raise up into the air after you've started it :P

Its not a big deal, in fact trivial, for insurers to supply the regs of the cars, vans etc under the fleet policy as most businesses have a set pool of vehicles.

I'm pretty sure this is already required. There's a website that you have to upload details of the fleet to........ racking my brain to remember the address :o

Stolen for the job, insurance paid out and I think they bought it back or got it back after a lengthy of time.
The reason why it's there, rotting away, with delivery and heist mikes only on it is because it's never been vrtd.
Apparently they wanted quite strong money as well considering it needs paintwork and everything rubber replaced as well as vrting which is meant to be very difficult now on a Euro 3 car.

Yes it's reg, here's one from Joe.ie, not the same car, they must have some inbuilt ANPR, I think they normally point it at the reg when targetting for speed...

The reg on the speedo gun is the reg of the Garda car - that is a silver Insignia in the pic , but the car in front is a white Merc.

The Merc was a 161 , passed that on the way home on Friday and a lot of idiots slammed on for a good rubberneck.

Cleartone is the name of a system, from the UK, that is built into the car. Depending on the system, its either used for pacing and video recording e.g. I was doing 150km/h and you were ahead of me, thus you were doing 150km/h. Or the slightly more expensive system, which I don't believe is deployed in Ireland, uses forward facing radar and factors in the speed of the Garda car itself. It just bounces some rays off the car in front and hey presto, speed measured.

There is nothing handheld or aimed. Hand Held laser is usually directed at the reg plate or headlights.
