Saw some streams of it in action over the weekend. It looked like a Total War game I guess, I don't really know an awful lot about them. Still not sure if these games are my kinda thing, but I do enjoy a bitta GW IP if it's delivered well.

Wait, you've never played a Total War game?

I've never played a Total War game either. Used to love Warhammer back in the day though so I'm following this with interest.

Nope, never did, all I ever hear about them is that they're always broken and it takes a year for both community mods and official patches to make them playable and tbh, I'm not even slightly arsed indulging in that sort of nonsense.

If anyone has even a passing knowledge or interest in Warhammer, then it'll be a small delight to see it all run in real time then. And if nothing else, controllable goblin doom divers are there.

Who are you going to play as first?

    Going for Orks

Grand strategy will not suit everyone, think of it as Civ but much deeper and with enormous realtime battles.
The focus being more on building armies, and cities to fund them while you try to trample the world with jackboots, that's generally how i play, but there are many other facets in TW, diplomacy, bribery, assassination, betrayal, religion and downright murder as well as the epic battles

I trust, at least, that the Doom Divers are painted red...?

Dont think so, but it may be doable, plus it's got mod support and launching with 2 day one mods for the campaign, so i'd say if their not red, they will be reasonably soon after launch

Off Cd Keys, entered the key in and then went to the game page and had the option to preload. This is meant to include the chaos dlc as well and €38 or so.

Can now use the code WARHAMMER666 at checkout for an extra 5% off, and for first time buyers like them on facebook for another 5% off

Should be €33.42 total (almost half Steam price)

How much more is there to download after that ~10gig preload is complete?

It spent a while messing about with patching 2 gigs more, but the amount downloaded was a good bit less. This all seems oddly small for a major game like this.

took a good while to unlock though, but it's really enjoyable and what's odd is, i haven't had any bugs yet. No Rome II-like waiting for twenty minutes for the AI to finish it's turn, it's actually incredibly fast in that respect, faster than Attila. The battles are way different too, the ai is a bit smarter and will try to outmaneuver you, and they'll gang up on your lord too. Artillery is fcuking amazing!

I've not gotten that far into the campaign but it seems like a first for TW having a good launch

Did Steam eat anyone else's bandwidth when downloading? Never happened before.

    So..............................what does anyone think?

I've only played about an hour or two. First impressions are good. Playing on Ultra and getting good fps, which I'm surprised and happy with.
Decided to play as the Empire first time out, which is probably a bit boring and not as fun as the other races, but I'll get to them eventually.

Liking the hero/Lord units, good to have a general unit you can actually use in battle, as opposed to previous TW games where you had to protect the bastard at all costs (only to be killed by a stray cannon/onager shot).

I have barely scratched the surface though, so more play before making my mind up.

    Not sorry i preordered :)

I've only been playing the Orc Campaign and it's so, soo different from anything in TW before, even Attila's nomadic hordes mechanics are vastly different, but it plays really well, the turns are super quick - leadership(morale) is vital for every battle, and having a crap leader(lord) means your infantry will rout far quicker than having a great leader. That being said, It's so different that if you're new to TW you'll probably do great because you'll be listening to the advisors and probably not making the kind of mistakes that a TW longtime player is making, ie: i've made a complete bollocks of two campaigns so far that i had to start over from scratch, which is actually pretty cool anyway so i dont mind

I'm hearing reports of co-op campaign desync problems (similar to those of Rome 2 in the early days). Can anyone confirm? I prefer to play Total War games online with a friend, but if the co-op side of things are broken I think I will hold off until its fixed.

Is this limited to 2 players like previous TW games?
