    Interesting the redact the figure for the annual cost - derived from multiplying the quoted charge per kbs and the quoted assessed usage. The figure I get is €538,419.42c.

    Not sure whether VAT is charged on top of that or not.:D

    Close to the figure of €525,000 estimated by Saorview during the week long trial back in Sept 2014.

    didn't actual watch any coverage of the first day of the dail but from twitter it seemed like oireachtas and rte may have been duplicating their efforts

    Thanks for posting the FOI document, very interesting. Was the DCENR information request to RTÉ included in the release?

    So, there is an initial 5 year agreement between RTÉ and the Oireachtas to supply and transmit the channel for a fixed fee paid by the Oireachtas with RTÉ paying the extra cost plus capital expenditure. It will be a part-time (partial) channel on Saorview. The agreement will be reviewed after 5 years. The estimates are based on the transmission of basic audio/video only, no teletext/ad/second language/Sat-Sun broadcasting.

    Full editorial control will remain with the Oireachtas, RTÉ will be responsible for the technical and quality standards of the channel on Saorview. There is no provision in the agreement for promotion of the channel or audience monitoring. The channel will be transmitted as received with no additional logos/branding or any input from RTÉ such as commentary/analysis. It isn't a commercial channel so no advertising will be carried.

    A BAI SI isn't required under Sec. 103 only Ministerial approval. The only reference I can see in the document to Sec. 103 of the Broadcasting Act is in relation to the sharing of spectrum when the Oireachtas Channel is off-air, this may be used by a future part-time channel on approval by the Minister.

    I was lucky enough to be able to watch it throughout the day, delighted with the availability and coverage of the channel. I was able to flick up/down between RTÉ News channel and OTV as required. It can be annoying at times when a debate/discussion/etc. is on going in the Dáil and RTÉ return to their studio analysis but now we have the option to remain with the live Oireachtas coverage. The motions debate at the end was both interesting and annoying to watch, all in a day's work at the Oireachtas I guess.

    Forgot to mention above there was a reference to Saorview's upcoming hybrid service in the document and that Oireachtas TV could be part of it.

    Vodafone carries the Oireachtas (201), Dáil (207)and Seanad (208) channels on its service, maybe we'll see these additional channels including Committee Rooms as virtual streamed channels on Saorview Connected.

    Why is News Now carrying a simulcast of the 9 o'clock news when there is live coverage of the government formation on Oireachtas TV, which is disgracefully only available on Sky and Virgin.

    Tbh RT had a great op to provide Coverage of NI, Scot, Welsh and England Elections and the formation of the FG gov today both on ONE & News Now.

    Surely it is the Ceann Comhairle who has to find the budget as it comes under his remit. The Minister has to change the legislation if the OTV is to be given a free ride.

    If minister approves a part time channel for OTV then he allows for the funding. Though no reason that I can see why the minister could fund carriage costs via licence fee as they did to provide funding to BAI and TG4

    True - more robbing funds from RTE, but either way it is robbing funds from RTE.

    Deduct it from Tubbs's wages.
