E65 with test until Feb 17 and "fully stamped service history" for €2500

    Not surprisingly, she's sold already.

    Peach of a motor.

Is this a Luxobarge post or bangernomics? Who knows.

The first picture sums up luxury motoring in Ireland. Picked this up an hour ago for a small pile of twenties and an emptying of the coin bottle, €570.

Jaguar S-Type, 3.0l V6 petrol, about 150k miles. This thing drives like new, it *genuinely* does. And it's as quick as my 740.

ABS light is on and there's a parking brake fault, but that's it. Steers perfect, shifts perfect and pulls hard. Some minor bodywork issues, easily sorted.

Bought as a backup car for literally a few days a year when i'm working on the 7. :)

Ach it was a bit of theatre, obviously paid the owner with notes, I just happened to be emptying the bottle this week. Have it all bagged up for lodging.

@ voodoo: Well wear fella. Those brake warnings are hardly as simple as low brake fluid are they?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,653 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Thanks. Haven't had a look at anything yet to be honest, probably a wheel speed sensor.

Are they lights? First thing that popped into my head was mounts for little flags.

you could get a nice set of flegs on that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,653 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

They're flag holders indeed. They're worth as much as the car itself if included, €1500 a pop.

If they are removed, would you be left with two holes drilled in the side of your 7er?

Maybe we need a new thread for exceptionally good value interesting cars for about €500. No Toyotas, no Hyundais need apply. Or does that make me a racist? :p

Its depressingly cheap and I hope the fixes are cheap as well.
But at the same time it would be quite an lonely thread if we looked for 500e luxobarge bangers id imagine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,180 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Good point. Not much use for a thread with one glorious post a month followed by dozens of thanking and congrats replies...

Yep, they're literally drilled into the wings. About the only way they can withstand motorway/autobahn speeds without being ripped off.

Examined the S-Type a bit more today, there's actually a fair whack of mold around the interior, must have been sitting up for a while with moisture in the cabin. Might strip the whole interior apart and give it a good scrub. A rear door won't open and there's actually 170k miles on the clock, not the 150k I thought. Still, can't be complaining at this price point.

Did ya buy it off the trade or owner just wanting rid?

I had an S type a couple go years back that I bought in the UK and was going to do a banger rally in it. We later sold it on for about 400 quid. It was also the 3.0 V6. Fuel economy was horrendous in it and it handled like a hippo on chocolate skates. Lovely straight drive though, luxury motoring at its best for very little money.

Friend has a few of them, asked him if he had anything around the €500 mark, got the S-Type as close to it as possible. :pac:

That about describes, it, the suspension is exceptionally soft and boaty, makes the 7 seem like it's on rails. The steering is ludicrously light with virtually no feel, I guess that's the way they wanted it for that particular market.

On the topic of old jags, are the last of traditional looking xj models (x350) going to go through the roof in a few years I wonder?
They are getting very cheap now.

Wouldn't be too read up on XJ prices, the brother of the chap I bought from has one though, a diesel. He's getting rid of it soon to replace it with a 4.2 petrol, always nice to hear. :)

This won't appeal to everybody, but at €2k or thereabouts it would make for cheap entry to luxobarging. Not sure about those wheels however
