You could take a look at the Lexus range, good bargains out there.
    Does engine size matter?

A CLS is a much much nicer car than an old shape S Class. The car in BN's link would be exactly the one I would be going to look at if I had the money.

Worth looking at one of these too

    And simply because

The man is doing 40 miles each way to work. I don't think he wants a 3.5 petrol or anything like it.
I'd consider a 2006 onwards S320 cdi if budget allowed.

At that budget you are probably looking at the s class that was sold until 2005. You would pick up an e65 7 series for that money no problem, even a facelift one. I wonder if you best bet would be an a6 or 5 series, e class or Volvo, a massive jump in comfort on fiesta, but cheaper insurance and tax...

Wouldn't touch either the BMW or Mercedes from that era. The potential for them being a money pit is just too high. Lexus would be much safer bet reliability wise. I'm just Not a fan of that era LS personally.

80 miles a day on the motorway, I'd definitely be having a look at the Volvo S80 D5. Not much is gonna trump it for driver comfort and cheap as chips too

Seen a few nice automatics for very little money, couldn't recommend highly enough... considering what I bought mine for 2 years ago, it's been the most economical car I've ever bought.... That includes the 1k tax!

Are you driving a D5? I thought they were 2.7 litre, and so about €1.4K in tax
    ?

    D5, 2.4....1080 for the year, 600 every 6 months.
It's 300 more per year than what I was paying on my 1.9 A6, nearly makes up for that with its mpg

Photo shows 177k km = 110k miles not 80k as stated .... still low miles but would make me wary of any other claims seller makes about the car.

..... NCTS website says NCT DUE 15/08/2015.

Bollox to it, I'd pay the high tax for something which I believe deserves it.
Besides at 3.5k and I bet you could get it lower could let you tax it for one full year and it would still be a good price.

I don't think you will get it much cheaper as that's very cheap.

If you're thinking of buying it, make sure you get a Cartell report first and check was it ever written off, and if so was it a crash or did it, for example, suffer fire damage because of being parked next to a car that went on fire.

    No harm in trying :)
@testerwanted: No I'm not looking to buy but I do like to keep my eye on the events re luxobages. Maybe once the kid has left my pocket I can think of something but that will be in 18 years :D

Check out the sellers other adverts - he's a trader very much at the low end of the scale. It wouldn't inspire me to be honest.

Over the €5 k limit here at €8,200 asking but looks a bit more honest than a few of the 750is I've seen recently on donedeal.

NCT until April and looks to have some nice extras too.

Impressive spec. The grey leather and interior is interesting, not many E65s with it.

One to be avoided I'd say. NCT almost out but not retested, supposedly 160k miles despite the NCT disc from 8 months showing more, and tinted front windows that scream 'scumbag'.
