Yearlings are off the wall but good types of 2 year old cattle to graze are a dead safe punt. Big limousines yesterday 500kg lads with pucks of compensatory growth locked up in them @ 1200. They were worth a thousand apiece this time last year.

Sorry should read jan/Feb 15 born not 14. Didn't buy from dairy cows here.

Your winning so! I'd be hoping for between 650-700 mark up on any suck bought in at 15-17mts as steers and 450-500 on any bullock bought as light weanling. This yr will test that.

I'd be squeezing them anyway. March to November grass farmers do not want that hassle and would buy poorer stock than yours at more money for the convenience of having them castrated.

I'm gearing up for end of this month small bit soon yet. Will have 7 ready for road 2bbx/fr 2hex/fr 2fr & 1 lmx/ch all 14-17mts & approx 420-520kg. Will seperate those 7 and out to grass Saturday and will trim tails and few tidy up jobs when they come out of shed. Lads buy with their eyes sure. Hopefully they will clean up well out. 1kg meal with grass and hopefully there will be a nice shine and coat on them by off.

Going by the age stated they wouldn't be overly big at that stage so I'd reckon a nice gold/silver type showing a decent bag of milk...€1400+ ?

Taking 2 heifers to mart this week one Angus weighing 500kg and black limo weighing 470kg both nearly 2 years old. What kinda price should I get?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,164 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

It hard to see more than 2/kg for either of them. The AA must be very fleshy and would be suitable for the slaughter, she is a bit too heavy for a butcher. With the AA scheme she make about 1070 in the factory.

3 100% Charolais heifers going to a special mart sale tomorrow.
Heifer 1: Born September 14, ~530 kg (Shes the one in the picture below)
    Heifer 2: Born October 14, ~475 kg
Heifer 3: Born May 15, ~400 kg (Twin to bull).

So predictions on what the three of them will make, FYI the first two heifers will be included as one lot. The 3rd one is actually the best, classic half twin!

first time in the mart in awhile yesterday,
    only saw heifers selling
    I'd 5 there
    2 nice red whiteheads 445 kgs 920
1 red and white LM 475 kgs 900
    1 bony PI heifer 475kgs 700
    1 small SH 360kgs 640

these were handy bucket fed 2014 cattle I bought to eat grass last year, they didn't leave much after them but they didn't die and they more than covered their costs.

thought 2015 whitehead heifers were a rob, from 260 kgs to 320kgs all making 450 plus the weight (about 2.40 to 2.50 a kg), very average heifers at that can't see them turning into any kinda of animals.

first lot in was a PB Registered CH heifer just over 500Kgs made about 1320 or there about I think

What way are good continental dry cows going at the moment lads? Have a few to go circa 700kg that wouldn't take a massive amount of feeding.
