I have some shares given to me as a gift, yet, I wouldn't be up to date on their overall structure of the company.

Can some kind folk give me a few pointers about this company, thanks

Anyone know anything about the above?
Apparently they are expected to perform well this year.

Be very thankful to the generous benefactor, particularly if you were gifted them 5 to 10 years ago

I'd hang on them. Rising middleclass in China want the best baby formula and 40% of global supply comes from Ireland and New Zealand.

Does anyone have insight to the slide in glanbia plc share price considering kerry are trading near an all time .They have drifted under €14 today are they worth a punt at that considering we have heard no profit warnings?

    See my post last Month

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=105619078&postcount=290

I think Glanbia are worth a punt at €14 (just bought another bit myself today), not entirely sure why they have depreciated in the last couple of days, but hopefully nothing serious and it might just be a buying opportunity for the canny investor. I think Glanbia is just not a very sexy share, because historically it has been a bit of a laggard behind Kerry and Aryzta (IAWS) similar problem with the unloved Donegal Creameries/Investments

Share price back up to €14.34 now. Soo last few days may have been a blip and the Share price seems to have plenty of support around the €14 mark ... If you believe analysts the shares should be trading around €16 so 12% profit there straight away if that ever comes to fruition.

As I mentioned in my previous post, a takeover (or even takeover speculation) is where the real gravy will be and the price for Glanbia will be around the €20/share mark. (approx 40% premium on where they are at the moment)

My reasoning for takeover is .....up until now, no international food group wanted to touch Glanbia because it owned a not very profitable liquid Milk business and was majority owned by a Milk CO-OP that hampered decision making.

This is no longer the case, the Milk CO-OP are now minority shareholders and Glanbia is no longer in the liquid Milk business, its solely an ingredients company but still trading at a low-ish P/E ratio of 20 (compare that with Kerry Group which trades off 30) and thus very attractive for a takeover.

Which analysts? Genuinely curious where you might get that level of market analysis

Well the FY2017 yearly results (out in Feb 2018), will take a small hit from the recent Dollar v Euro weakness. Whats more pressing is the FY2018 results will be significantly weaker unless the Dollar recovers ground quickly against the Euro.

Majority of Glanbia earnings are Dollar derived nowadays. (80% was quoted in some article)

But this of course is true of any Euro company that does significant business in the US....why Glanbia in particular are getting a kicking is still unclear.

maybe they are not hedging their income vs USD weakness?

    down to 13.50 today

Hmmm interesting discussion. Has anyone thought of whether or not now is the right time to buy? Seriously considering lumping about E1k onto them, but I wonder do they have much further to fall, and if so, by how much ?

I'm not sure whether they are at or near the bottom and whether it is better to wait until the Fy17 results come out in February.

I still believe that Glanbia has fundamentally strong business and that in the long term it will generate value just kind of hesitant on the timing of when to buy.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Just came accross an article where Glanbia updated the market at the beginning of Jan regarding earnings forcasts which will be -4% on forecasts for FY18 and -6% for FY19.

    No effect to FY17.

Thats actually a substantial enough correction to future earnings, but it wasn't well reported.

That I think, has been the primary driver of the fall in the share price and not Currency worries (which I had previously suspected).

I'm still quite bullish on Glanbia and have bought in at various prices around €14-€15 over the last few months, but I won't be buying anymore until the results come out in Feb.

I still in the long grass on this one ,the specialist nutrition market is saturated now and there is also word about some big processing plant being delayed .
There also seems to be big numbers of shares are being off loaded by some one

..that means someone bought dem big numbers of shares :)

Glanbia has been bucking the ISEQ declines over the past two weeks....its up about 7% from its low of €13.50 during Jan.

Market must feel recent falls were overdone or else be predicting good news in the results next week.

Someone wasn't happy with those results anyways! The H1 2018 guidance may have spooked a few

Kerry took a hammering yesterday also even with their overall positive results, not as much of a hammering as Glanbia though

All about 2018. slower growth. more competition. currency headwinds.
Guidance of 5 to 8% growth for 2018 but the exchange rate was -8% this year so could possibly be the same next year. that could mean negative growth in 2018.
with 80% of earnings now from the US they might be as well reporting in dollars.

Share price going up , nice!
Anyone know what is the reason behind that ?

USD appreciation against the Euro might have something to do with it - just a hunch though

Glanbia Share Price motoring along nicely...up 15% in four weeks... we might even see €17 in the next few days? this is despite Stock Markets around the world basically sh**ing the bed in the same period. I wonder is there something going on? take-over talks etc. ? or is it just that Food is a safe haven in times of volatility. I noticed the short sellers have layed off Glanbia since start of Nov. could it just be that simple?

I already sold out a bit of my shares myself ....as my average buy price was down in the €13's so 20% profit ..thank you very much Ms Talbot :-)

Is 20% profit what you aim for and when it hits this target you sell??
Rinse and repeat ,wait for this share to drop again and dive in at a low point .I have glanbia bought at€2.60 with a basket of other shares which all flopped so i probably lucky to break even!!!
I have them glanbia shares over 10 years ,might be time to exit now might wait until it hits €18

    Yep, something like that.....

Not always how it works out of course, sometimes when the share price slides after you buy ....you are left with the most difficult decision of all....buy more to average out your original investment ...or sell up and take it on the chin :(

Look at the sticky threads on how to buy shares. It is not wise to buy shares in just one company. Highly risky and make sure you dont need the money for at least ten years.

You can not buy shares in glanbia co op unless you are a farmer dealing with the co op
