Oireachtas TV is on the mux RTE2 is on. Channel ID is 'Oireachtas TV' on my Sony TV.

EDIT: TG4 HD is on the other mux (RTE1, UTVI ). Current programme info reads: 'Ag Táistáil Innealtóireachta'. Blank channel ID for me.

I had noticed that the RTE NL HD loop was replaced with that clacking 2rn Ard Ghleine card this morning.

Hope TG4 HD hangs about, be a nice addition to Saorview. TV3 will probably never be HD on the platform...

Certainly a welcome addition. No technical reason why all channels should not be in HD on the platform. Plenty of space and it would be a great coup for them to have all the channels in HD before the pay TV operators.

If TV3 HD is not made available on Saorview they should be excluded from bidding on any sports rights.

Proper order. Watching the RWC on TV3 on Saorview and then flicking over to UTV on Freeview HD was some eye opener in terms of broadcast quality. They should be forced to switch to HD on the platform before they start showing the Six Nations.

It is now showing a still image of Prime Time on RTÉ One.

EDIT: Saw a piece of that video they were showing for the last few weeks just now and it has now changed to coloured bars

What makes everyone think this is TG4 HD testing ? I haven't seen anything on this test to suggest it is TG4 HD.

Ok, good news then, but it's taking a long time to launch and why is it showing so much of that scenery loop instead of running TG4 in HD like you said it did on Tuesday ? It's been testing for quite a while now.

    1. TG4 +1 is due to go on to LCN 14 if it ever launches.

    2. The loop is a RTNL test loop in HD they have used before. This allows them to see the effect of high grade HD on the mux.

    3. TG4 has an HD stream 'under test'.

    4. 2RN are shouded in secrecy and do not like to show their hand.

    5. 2RN do not do anything in a hurry. They do not understand the term 'urgent'.

    6. They took years to 'test' digital broadcasting as if they were the first to try it out, then they took years to get to launch it, and then took 17 months before shutting down analogue - about 15 minutes before the last time possible. They then had a second launch of Saorview as if they had not had the first one. Then, for unknown reasons screwed the series link and the basic signal to make non-Saorview kit useless.

    Rant over.

You can add to list the fact that rtenl/2rn had setup audio description settings incorrectly until recently... anyone who turned on AD by accident or on purpose was left with no audio on TV3, 3e, TG4 & UTV Irl.

I did not know about that because it did not affect me - sorry for missing it from the list but it true RTNL/2RN style they took ages to fix it.

Probably because of the weather, your fault, the manufacturers fault, the government, not 'Saorview Approved', it was the fourth Tuesday of a leap year.............. anything bar 2RNs fault.

Thanks guys and I agree, anything to do with Saorview moves at the pace of a geriatric snail. I won't expect to see TG4 HD launch anytime soon.

I tried to find out why the signal had been banjaxed and the only answer I got was 'It only works if the set is
    1. Saorview approved
    AND
    2. Is set to Country = Ireland.

No other reason for the 38 blank channel headers or the two SSB channels in position one of each Mux, both of which screw up the signal for sets with Country = UK or are a bit slow.

Well my Samsung TV IS Saorview approved and set to Ireland and yet series linking stopped working when 2RN 'fixed it'

Just looking at TG4 schedule for Saturday 27th on Saorview EPG and is showing election coverage all day and is also saying Live Pro 12 Rugby at 7pm , via Saorview red button and UPC CH 602. I think this has to be first time red button was used on saorview platform at last

    Took a look. Says:
Live coverage of Connacht v Ospreys from the Sportsground in the 16th round of the PRO12. Available on UPC Red Button and Virgin Channel 602.

    Error maybe and changed subsequently?

They're still in error with mentioning UPC.

You take a look at Saorview EPG it clearly says via Saorview red button and it shouldn't mention the UPC bit !!! And it is written available on Saorview red button and virgin/UPC CH 602 it was that way this morning and has not changed and UPC virgin is the same thing

Apologies, should have made clear that I looked at TG4's own online schedule:

    http://www.tg4.ie/en/schedule/

where for the 27th it mentions the rugby being available on the 'UPC Red Button'.

    Hi. Probably wrong forum.

Does Anyone know if TG 4 HD is coming to sky anytime soon ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,285 ✭✭✭Maysa07

There's tests going on all the time on saorview. It's a commercial decision whether TG4 or TV3 go HD on saorview. more cost for them as more bandwidth per Kbps etc...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,553 ✭✭✭galtee boy

I think it's time to think about the title of this thread, it's obvious that TG4 is NOT testing on Saorview, if it ever was, apart from one brief sighting weeks ago. That loop of Galway etc is just a HD test and could be used for any channel that might launch in HD, in the meantime it just gives the engineers something to play with out of boredom.

The title was accurate when the thread was created. Unfortunately since then the test of live TG4HD ceased & transmission reverted back to the RTENL loop.
