Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

New Childrens Hospital - Dysfunctional Society?

    You would have thought the welfare of children would be a priority in a reasonably advanced European country

    Surely if there is a need for new facilities in order to provide appropriate treatment for children it would be a national priority? How is it, then, that something which ought to be a national priority can drag on for nearly three decades? Proposed in 1993 and wont be functional 'till 2020. Actually, I'd place odds on it not being open in 2020. They'll probably discover something of archaeological significance when they eventually get around to breaking ground.

    I was just looking at the New Childrens Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. Announced by the state government in 2008, has already built and is currently being fitted out and will open later this year.

    What a contrast.

    Tallaght was only opened in 1998. We're a small island nation, theres a limit to how regularly we can deploy new hospitals.

    When did the Beacon open? Or the Galway Clinic? Or the Mater Private> Or the new Vincent's Private? All are highly equipped and staffed private hospitals.

    It is the political posturing on public hospitals that takes the time. Tallaght took nearly 30 years of election promises.

    I cannot understand the decision to build where they are proposing to build, why not build out in blanchardstown connolly hospital. Acres of green space to put a hospital, parking and a green spaces for the children to recuperate. Helicopter flights could easily accommodated. The new rotunda could be build along with the children's hospital for the stated price of the inner city site.but god knows what the finish price will be if the hospital is ever built.

    Kathleen Lynn was going to build a children's hospital in the early years of the Free State, but the catholic hierarchy stopped her, saying it'd be better for catholic children to die, rather than share facilities with protestant children.

    The same ráiméis is going on, while the owners of the hospitals disguise it as discussions about ethos and the like.

    Was it this one which she did build (and got qualified approval from the Archbishop for), or did she plan a bigger one?

    Have to agree. Connolly ideal, but I would favour bringing it out further than Maynooth. Absolute madness to build at James's. Access and parking will be a nightmare.:mad:
