The latest batch of the The UK Apprentice seems a fairly dismal crowd this year, with just one or two diamonds. There's a comical early preview on the iPlayer along with auditions and selection of 'self-promotional cheese covered motivational quotes' to choose from.

Plenty of arrogant & dense folks here that'll stir the Sugar man up the wrong way from the get go. They’ll be sipping cheap tea from polystyrene cups at the grim fluorescent lit cafe in no time.

Whilst a few others seem to have a good mix of 'quietly confident, bright with a hint of dynamism and agility'.

Early pre-series predictions are below as to who'll make it past the half-way mark. Some caution with these selections as the show is essentially looking for pushy market stall sellers or dramatic 2nd hand car salesperson-ship skills rather than skilled analytical project saviors.

    Aisha Kasim YES

    David Stevenson NO
    Elle Stevenson NO
    Gary Poulton YES
    Jenny Garbis YES
Joseph Valente NO (very early exit)
Mergim Butaja NO (very early exit)

    EP (Early prices) just starting...:

The multi-lingual (x5) entrepreneurial Vana is already the favorite, and has already started featuring in press articles, suspect it may be over before it starts.
Saying that she shares pole position with 'Joe', whom I think is a plumber. All the others are at double digits.

I assume that is Betfair Sportsbook?

Indeed, will probably extend out to a few other books and exchanges once it starts off proper on Wed.

Likely to feature heavily in the press now that the bake a cake show is over (something like 7 or 11 million viewers, hard to grasp). Just put the cake in the oven, have a beer and come back in 20mins, done.

The DailyMail has run a few nice photos of some of the Apprentices 'assets'.

    Their headline:
"It's the Sugar babes! How a circus performer, ex-Miss Jamaica and a self-proclaimed 'geezer bird' make up the most exhibitionist Apprentice line-up EVER".

Bit of a contrast between the swimwear and the cold steely suits on the ladies. By the sounds of the contestants, imagine one of teams is going invent a new 'selfie app' of some sort during the series.

    - One that prevents you uploading your beach photos to LinkyIn and vice versa with the sensible suits images blocked going to instagram. By calculating via algorithms the amount of 'whey-hey' or 'whoo-noo' embedded in the image's aesthetic content...

    Charleine Wain NO
    Gary Poulton YES
Joseph Valente NO (very early exit)
Richard Woods YES (possible dark horse finalist)
    Vana Koutsomitis YES (probable/potential winner).

Only these five left, Gary is available at up to x101, 'emotional' Charleine x21, the rest x5 or less. Gary&Charleine next to go.

High level of skepticism with this (pre-recorded) market, as Joe has been an unlikely favorite from the get go on the exchanges, yet lacks professional business acumen/qualifications and can be painful in presentations. Guess he'll be there to upgrade the plumbing in sugar towers if versatile Vana doesn't rightly take the prize. Richard is in with a chance but possibly too much of a smooth talking, agreeable, client account manager type of chap.

So just Vana x3.75 vs Joe x1.25 now, available now only on BF (Sportsbook) for the final head2head.

All market indications (shortening from the get-go) point to Joe as the winner as the series was filmed already earlier this summer, and thus suspect a slow steady dribble of shop/exchange bets have prepared to back Joe since the end of filming from those in the know.

Theoretically Vana should have won but is only taking 30.5% of the bets currently, against Joe's unfathomable 69.5%! backing, reflecting the short 125% return available.

Who in their right mind would bet on something where the winner has already been decided?

All the more reason actually. Any leaks from associated production companies, or from price trends and forecast indications - would be a good reconfirmation of whom the actual winner was. In this case Joe, even with Vana as the more natural selection, not based on leaks though, just strong consistent market pricing indications.

See also the media leak associated with 'the great Bake off show', which returned a decent x1.44. x175 max shop bets in a certain isolated geographical location in high frequency is as good as a guarantee in that case.

Lucky for the bookies on this year's Apprentice (16), as none dared to open a market open on this, after last years slight fiasco.

Lad Shergar accidentally revealed the winner this week via Twatter, and still there are 6 contestants left in the series (filmed earlier in the summer).
Time to upgrade those Amstrad computers...
