Yup , cut the silage Saturday and Sunday and went covering it after work this evening, got plastic and about half the tyres on before the midges ate me . I suppose like alot on here in the future i hope to take it easier at work and spend a couple of days of the week at home . If Daddy would give me his SFP I could take a few extra days !

Talking to neighbour (I'll call him Pat) in local tesco as he was coming out of toilet in the shop. He never stuck for a smart answer and I couldn't help but think of story involving him.

He was standing at an urinal in local pub. Another bloke comes in, nods at Pat and starts doing what he has to do. Then he says 'Ah Pat, you don't have a very big 'lad' on ya, do ya'
'Ah', says Pat, 'I only take out what I need' :D

Im very confused. Ppl with one of the two degrees i have are commanding 28k straight from college. He can go and **** himself now tbh.

    Jaysus, I'm confused too.
He offered you 18k, but people half as qualified with no experience get 28k but he offered someone else 60k?
    What are your two degrees?

    Advice needed please.
We have rented an outfarm from a relative for the last 7 years and have claimed SFP on same. Unfortunately the relative died last month - RIP.
We were contacted by the Executor (son of the deceased) to tell us that there was issues/problems. We don't know what these issues are.
From the "tone" of the conversation OH has deduced that we are now - persona non grata. He is of the opinion to not touch the place with a barge pole.
There was never an official written lease agreement in place. The only proof that we have is the cheque stubs.
It now appears that we will be unable to farm/maintain the land.
What happens if we have a Dept inspection or the eye in the sky sees the place going to wreck and ruin!

Folks , I think I have a blind calf , the cows broke into next field last night and he stayed where he was . I was able to rub him in he didn't stir for a few minutes then he took off but isn't going near fences or walls . He seems to sense them and stays back . He wasn't blind when I tagged him definitely as I had a job to catch him and he is in good order otherwise . Any theories on why he would go like this ?

TBH he probably thought you'd be desperate to "come home" and so he could pull a fast one getting you on the cheap.. I've heard this a bit recently.

Are they still able to graduates on jobsbridge? I do a bit of work for a builder that had 2 QS's in the office that were costing him next to nothing just to get experience and back working .
While that's going on it will be hard for wages to come up unfortunately.
One of them was very good but couldn't get work anywhere and wasnt able to leave the parents, he was only getting €50 a week on top of his dole and was making /saving a hell of a lot more than that for the builder

Vitamin b deficiency I think, give vet a shout and give him a shot of it . Neighbour had one or two with it the odd year think it's when they start eating lush grass or something not sure

Seeing as there is no written agreement, do you reckon they might think that you are trying for squatters rights? I imagine they wouldn't have trawled through the bank accounts to try to identify your payment.

I'd say the best thing to do is head over and have a quiet word with him, explain how you have it for this year as it's gone in for the premium so it's worth fairly little to anyone else at this stage and ,if they still want you gone, you will pull out later in the year.

Alternately, you might be willing to sign a written lease if they were looking for one?

I'm going to get killed for this but however...

I just got a valuation for my 2 reactors. The suckler i was happy with.

The dry cow was valued at E1125 if not in calf and 832 if in calf. Thats a good price for a 12yo late calving cow.

The problem i have is she is 8 months in calf and i really don't think i can let a cow that far along in calf be slaughtered. It just doesn't feel right to me:(

I may not be allowed to wait till she calves as the outbreak round here is bad but if i keep her i will delay my and my neighbours efforts to get clear before the end of the year.

Am I insane to go looking for permission to keep her?:o

The next door neighbour here had one go down that was a couple weeks off calving when he got the valuation and he was allowed to keep her until she calved. Now I don't know if that was because it too the dept so long or because he asked.

I'd feel very guilty letting her go to slaughter so late in pregnancy. Even if you can get her another few weeks and induce her, the calf should survive.

Would the calf not be infected also?

Nope, it doesn't carry like that.

I wouldn't allow the calf to suck her at all though, it can pass though the milk.

Had vet out there , she reckoned its meningitis and gave him a lock of vit B aswell . Lush grass is a rarity with me !

Was just going to suggest meningitis. The earlier it's diagnosed the better the chances of a full recovery

    Snap:(

I am trying to take the neighbours looking to get clear into account also. Afaik, if there is a reactor next door to then then they could face further restrictions.

Just heard of more herds gone down to the west of us too.

I better ring the dept after dinner and see what the story is.

She reckoned I spotted it very soon so chances are good that he will recover and get his sight back hopefully. Only for the cows broke out and he got left behind I wouldn't have noticed him at all probably
