Didn't bother going near the city at all. Went from my door to the door of the hotel, total of 110.5 miles, in 1 hour 58 mins, that included a 5 minute break. Was good going, but traffic was quiet enough.

    Is that adare?

I assume this has got something to do with Jurrasic Park? I don't get the reference anyway. :(

Yep that's the joke anyway. http://www.pedestrian.tv/images/article/2015/02/02/Pratt-619-386.jpg

Yeah I would man, but there can't be any engine limiters or anything.
If I'm paying for the car it has to be the total car and I can do what I want.
    That seems super cheap.

No engine limiter in terms of power, but you do have to remember it was rented, so probably not a good idea to give it back with bald tyres :P

No no I wouldn't but I'd like to push the car and get what it can give me. Not be toured around with someone in the passenger seat telling me to back off.
If its me and the car on my own for 24hrs at that pricing then yes every weekend until you run out of cars :)

The price needs to be at least double to cover what you'd be trying though!

Well, certainly the M3 wouldn't be €180 itself :pac:

It's just a little business idea I had, but it's near impossible in this country since there is no market for it really. Add outrageous insurance and it hardly makes sense.

And well, if the car was rented only twice a week only, it would pay itself off in approximately a year.

I thought I'd save up actual cash and start small, so let's say a choice of three cars.

2007 M3 would set me back about 33k, haven't really decided on the rest :pac:

I wanted to rent and try out something decent myself and there isn't a single company that does this here.
If there is a gap in the market... use it to your opportunity :pac:

I think it wouldn't work man, as much as I'd love to see it.
You'd have a great start from everyone interested giving it a go and then it'd die out from nobody else being bothered.

Insurance would be colossal no doubt!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,350 ✭✭✭Sobanek

That's probably the issue - I would do it maybe once or twice myself if there was such a business operating here.

The main issue is lack of petrolheads in this country, mainly due to the population being so small, so the customer base isn't really that big at all.

Lets say a car has been out of tax for over a month and it's sold to a new owner. Does the new owner have to go to the county council to get the tax from the date of purchase or is there another way of doing it?

Also, does the new owner have to wait for the log book to come or can it be taxed before?

    You don't pay back tax.

    Question for you all petrolheads:

Would you rent a sports car (BMW E92 M3, Nissan 370Z and the likes) for about €180-300 quid for a whole day?

Car is yours for 24 hours, you can experience the power, handling etc.

Sounds great to me, where do I sign up :)

Most successful entrepreneurs had many ideas before they put one in motion :)

I imagine you'd have to go nationwide to make it anyway viable, the folks at GoldenMoments aren't losing money with their drive a supercar for 20 minutes thing anyway, they've added a lambo experience to the options :)

Well, the cost of three basic sports cars has come up to a whopping €115k, all on the road with a year's tax and VRT paid.

    These are a 2007 RS4 4.2, 2008 M3 DCT Convertible and a 2008 C63 AMG. I feel like that would be a nice selection to choose from.

Where do I get a €115k from though :pac:

Sorry I don't know if I caught all of this right, are you saying you'd want to rent all three cars out?

Well acccording to wiki it's Jiangling Motor company. I think they were trying to spoof GMC for some cred or something :D.

I find it hard to believe, any of those cars will be more than 10k a month to maintain.

Watching car sos on channel 4 here, they're restoring an old 1920's austin, cylinder head was cracked so they got some guy to "cold stitch" a new piece of metal into the head, pretty amazing stuff!

They are being rented out by people who quite obviously want nothing but to rag them. Every couple of weeks they will need brakes and tires, and whatever else might come up.

You can't exactly go putting Triangles on an M3 you plan on giving to some 20-odd year old from Clondalkin.

And as an aside, two words; public liability.

Yeah, there is none! The only requirement is third party insurance. Exactly why insurance companies can shaft everyone and anyone.

Is it an increased risk of theft or something along those lines why clondalkin is mentioned?
