Citroën ax was the lightest I had. They are only about 700 kg.

Approximately 2,200km on the clock in the last 8 days.

During which time a chap in a silver Hyundai Coupe met me on a backroad (Kildare area i think). He was being a bit too tasty and very nearly wrote himself off with the ditch (we were on a bend). He definitely had to have scratched the side of his car to shtie anyway. Luckily enough all the same, as if I wasn't there, the next thing he was about to encounter was a woman walking with her pram and child. Hopefully the scare of bumping into me knocked some sense into him before he came to them.

Still though, the Focus is racking up the mileage and doesn't seem to be degrading at all. Brakes are squealing and there's a few squeaks from the passenger side wheels in general, but they were there when I got it. Talk about a car not owing you anything. If this thing gets through the NCT with less than €250 being spent on it, i think I may fall in love. :D

I reckon my NCT bill will be higher though. Needs new tyres and pads at the least. Also needs some hammerite on the rear brake lines apparently. Out from that, it's just a guessing game. Will get it to mechanic in the next couple of weeks (NCT due in July) and see how I get on.

They are great to keep going alright. I would have very little wrong with mine, power steering pump, cam/crankshaft seal, could be 1 or 2 other things. Nonetheless, I'd say 3 weeks wouldn't pass before it would be inside a garage. Track rods, droplinks, bushings, bearings you name it, are constantly going, due to extremely poor roads, dips, humps, bumps, potholes. I reckon I must have everything in every corner changed this past few months, so things have to settle down!

If I were spending over 60% of my income on a car perhaps I would not be able to afford anything to measure my mickey with.

The speculation on other posters' financial decisions is getting VERY drawn out now. Could we bring back the "smoking chat" or something instead?

I agree it's any man or woman's choice.

It's totally up to them whether good or bad it's of nothing to them.

I would not want the smoking chat to come back though :)

    I know how you feel!

    In the last 2 months.......
    New clutch and flywheel,
    New lower control arms
    New rear drop links

    This month.....
    New upper control arms
Must check the arb bushings too, they are the only thing left to change on the front :(

And the roads I drive are only getting worse!

I'm not sure 159's were ever designed to be driven by Mikka Hakkinnen though...?

So I went from a 330i to a 1.9 Tdi Passat and after about two months have decided to move the Passat on I hate it with a passion very unlike me I haven't even cleaned it once.

So moving onto another diesel thinking a cl7 Accord or maybe even a 320d.

Seen this one for sale http://cars.donedeal.ie/view/9445082

Twin exhausts on a 320d they wouldn't be factory fitted? Not a massive fan of cars trying to pass themselves off as something there not. But it's a good price and decent looking car beside that.

What year is the passat, does it have a toe bar? I'm looking for an upgrade at the moment. If it's a early 2000's passat I'd be interested.
    Have ye an ad?

Sorry it's an 06 with no tow bar. No ad yet as I've only just decided to move it on.

It was the 335's that had the twin exit at the rear. It could be a proper set up or just the stick on pipes, looks well regardless.

That car has the older more reliable engine in it too, the M47. These didn't have the issues the newer one does but they require some breather filter for the turbo to be changed. I'd be doing a lengthy reg check on that too with regards to miles and stuff, 120k is low enough for one of those.

Was driving home and came across what can only have been a lost driver going the wrong way up the luas tracks at busarus

They then tried to turn right which is not possible as that's one way also

Yea that's what I meant by it trying to look like something it's not being debadged and twin exhaust. Rang your man to ask about exhausts see if they were factory fitted or retro fitted and only one working his words were " not sure but they both work and some hum of it" ha.

Reckon it's worth a look though will certainly be doing a reg check on it.

Have two lads coming to look at the 330i this week still going to be hard to handover the keys.

LPG on the 330 wouldn't be an option no?

I can't be the only one who thinks the above E91 looks dodgy as ****?

    Unfortunately no.

One of the people coming to look at the 330i wants to meet me at my address I understand why he does but I'm a bit nervous giving it out. What would be the standard protocol?

Thats a tough one - you tell him no and alarm bells will start ringing for him, no deal etc. I suggest coming to a compromise, Garda station perhaps?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,295 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

Is there anything worse than deciding to wash your car in the direct sunlight of the afternoon and finding new minor marks.

Note to self only wash on a cool evening

Bit odd that the car is advertised twice on donedeal, in the Cars section and again in the Damage Repairable section?

Also, he seems to have 4 vehicles for sale. He has one mobile number for the BMW & Merc Vito and then another mobile number for the Hyundai & Merc Sprinter

Yea that's not a bad idea. I suggested Tesco he wasnt to comfortable with which I get in a way. Might suggest Garza station.

For some reason there's something about that car that seems off. When I saw the bumper and lack of plates I thought Cat D or stolen recovered. The twin pipes at the back could mean it's not even a 320d and possibly a scam. That's one to thread carefully with.

Good spotting although it does have a scuff mark on the front bumper which he highlights in the pictures and is willing to take the passat off my hands one of the many unofficial dealers.

It could be worth a careful look.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭mhackett102

Just typed the mobile number thats for the BMW into Google. This came up (http://kilshaneautoclinic.skuup.com/Home.html)

Not sure how often the website is updated but he seems to be into repairing cars along with buying and selling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,222 ✭✭✭✭Marty McFly

Bmw is a no go rang him again mentioned I spotted it in the damaged repairable section as well then he said oh yea it's not just the scuff mark there's a small rattle in the flywheel as well. The fact he didn't mention that earlier makes me just think no not worth it.

I thought the same. 335d that was written off and imported here and a 2 litre thrown in to make it a more desirable 320d!
