Defending the Kardashians, lmao @ you

Ah come on, Kourtney's gold medal performance in 2004 was amazing!

If the publicity aspect makes other transgender people feel more accepted then that's great. As a rule the whole Kardasian phenomenon is all about attention seeking and money making but that doesn't necessarily mean some good can't come of it once in a while.

Is it just me or does she look like Gina Davis?

Either way all I can say Is she is very brave for taking a huge step to be comfortable in her own body.

    yes...but also Jessica Lange right?

In fairness once anyone starts getting too much facial plastic surgery, they all get a certain look that looks alike!

Looks like Julianne Moore with a Heroin addiction

I hope it doesn't offend anyone to say, but Caitlyn is a better looking woman than Bruce was a man. I know these are Vanity Fair photos and all that...but, amazing transformation. I didn't realise who it was when I first saw the picture. Kris must be ragin' that she'll know longer be the glamorous older lady of the family.

I don't think what she looks like is even that important, though obviously she wants to look her best. The important thing is that she's at peace with herself.

Grow the fcuk up. Use the correct pronoun. Although, you weren't the only one.

I saw a tweet from an IAAF employee asking if she could be considered the 1976 Heptathlon champion now. I don't expect much from some AH regulars, but from an IAAF employee? In very poor taste.

Plenty of bigoted people on here deliberately using the incorrect pronoun.

Disappointing to see, especially after the resounding yes to SSM we were seeing on boards only a few weeks ago.

Fair play to her for finally having the courage to be who she is. Can't have been easy.

well I don't know what the correct pronoun to use for a eunuch

and IMO he/she does not look beautiful, he/she just looks like a bad cross-dresser

just my opinion of course, if you don't like it thats your problem

    +1 on this.

Don't have much to add to that except that I hope she now can be happy with who she is after years of trying to be someone else to everyone else , and denying herself in the process . Genuinely hope that her transition being so openly discussed in the media makes it easier for others to transition also.

Pretty ignorant response right here. There are people who go their entire lives living inside what feels like the wrong body for fear of being on the wrong end of ridicule just like this.

Do they seek to be on the cover of magazines or if they had the money for a gender reassignment, would they not just happily become the person they always felt they should be?

Good luck to Jenner in her new incarnation. But if it is so personal then why be so public?

Can anyone post the most current update on the wrongful death lawsuit? Was he texting while driving when he killed that woman? Any links to articles would be helpful.

I hope it does too. But the thing that's made me feel most accepted was when I came out in my local and it made no difference. I go there regularly, apart from one incident everyone has treated me with respect. There's differences in how they act, sure, but no-one has ever said anything beyond a curious question. I order my beer, I chat with the barmen, I chat with the other regulars.

And it's the same on the streets. No-one looks twice, or I don't notice if they do. I've never had an issue in the shops. In fact I think people actually go out of their way to be nicer to me, the amount of smiles, "thank yous" and "see you laters" have risen a lot.

I do worry. I see the reaction of some people have in here. I've been pushed once by someone who claimed to have no issue with me but kept calling me by my old name with a sneer. There are people out there who hate transgender people, and you never know if you're going to run into them. But every day I go to the shop, or buy new shoes, or go on a stag weekend (of course I'd go on a stag weekend, I've known the guy for 10 years and wouldn't miss it) it encourages me.

Overall I think Ireland is good to people, and those who do have an issue are likely to ignore you. I know trans people from other countries who live in Ireland who say it's a lovely country, compared to their own. You're still worried, because sometimes something comes up and you fear for your safety, because of the unknown and the attitudes you know people have (and I'm sure there's some people rubbing their hands with glee, delighted to hear they're hurting trans people.)

The reaction I've received from the public has been great. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

I had never realised before now that Bruce Jenner was not only an Olympian, but actually won gold in the Decathlon. That's an incredibly impressive achievement and shows mental strength. It actually made me re-evaluate my biased view where I had lumped Bruce as a reality sleb.

Good luck to her on her next phase in life. If she encourages one or two more people to speak out and find themselves, all the better.

but she and the story were going to be all over the magazines anyway. This is her way of saying im not ashamed anymore, I am who I am.

Even if she was keep it personal, the media would be hounding her to tell the story or telling the story their own way, she probably knows that she gave her personal story away when she got involved in the kardashain reality tv circus so there isn't really any turning back but to embrace the media and use it to advantage.

Why we are applauding a mentally ill man for mutilating himself and wearing a dress?
I'll give him five years max before suicide.

Most appropriate username you got there.

Ended up seeing a reasonable number of Keeping Up With (the horror =-O ) and Jenner did seem to be genuinely weird* (unlike the others who just seem self obsessed and cynical).
My question is, if you've bucketloads of cash can you transition without the psychological assessments and long lead in time that accompanies the process normally.

*I know that it must put immense strains on a person living in the wrong body but they did seem fairly fcuked up

Second point, is this a really a good poster person for normalising transgenderism, isn't it more likely too reinforce the negative ones?
e.g rather than a calm stable person transitioning with dignity its a tasteless carnival starring an attention seeking celeb thats known for being dramatic and odd.

    ^^^^^
None of this implies I think she is just doing it for publicity and hopefully, it is positive in a wider sense.
