Not so much luck here, used €80 in a few days :p Mind you, motorway driving it can hit 40 MPG at the speed limit.

    You can hit 40!!!!!!

30-32 has me done! And a lighter car and all!!

His has double VANOS which is supposedly more economical. I get in and around your figure as well.

Tell me about it. I've an s80 petrol which finds it difficult to manage 30. There is a big difference on long journeys alright but knocking around at the weekends is eye watering when it comes to mpg. Sometimes I lament over the diesel cars I've previously owned and then I just think about the garage bills. I'm happy with my petrol car now. I don't do big miles any more so I'm happy with my decision.

Re 406 - the 01 will be a HDI - which being direct injection (with common rail) would be pretty good.

Underated cars - the 406 - oh god yes.

They are the sort of yoke - that someone who owns one will like/respect/love/think is a nice/good car - but those whove never even sat in one will dismiss for being French/not a BMW/nothing special etc etc.

Of course they have their issues like every other car on the road - but I reckon theres a world of supposedly superior cars from the same era (1996 to 2004) that would have reason to worry in an OBJECTIVE comparison with a 406.

yes it was indeed a 110 HDI STDT. It was probably my favorite car. I sold it and bought a Passat 130 sport from the UK. Broke my heart, wallet and melt. I ended up hating the VW.
The pug was a more comfortable car with superior handling, brakes and steering. Not to mention reliability. Even the design of the dash and general interior layout was better. Anyway, we live and learn. They dropped the ball later with the 407 imo. I hope Peugeot get it together with the 508. It certainly looks the part.

Just a reminder to folk that if anyone has nothing to do tomorrow c+c should be on(first Sunday of the month).

Should always get tyres in pairs anyway due to uneven wear!

Ah ya I usually would, but there's damn all thread left on these, still a few mm above the limit though. Just wanna run these into the ground, prob only last a few weeks, and I'll get 4 new ones.

Mr pickles, do you recall where you acquire your led's? The ones you gave to me that didn't fit the 900? I've them in the focus and they look authentic. Compare that to the mondeo, they're very blueish, I prefer the ice white colour.

Also, is there any way of stopping the led's from dimming down and still glowing for a while after the lights are turned off. Did I read that resistors or something are needed?

508 looks great for sure - and I think if reliability holds up well - the new 308 is a definite step BACK in the right direction for Peugeot.

One thing I don't get though - is why the French seemed to row back on the nice ride comfort they had in older cars - the 406 seemed to be one of the last of the French cars with proper old school French ride comfort - ie very nice.

Not sure if they have addressed this in the likes of 508 or new 308 - sat in both of those at the ploughing but never travelled in either.

Laguna 3 was a disaster for ride comfort - well the one I was in was anyway

    Was a 2011 model.

I'm not sure what I'm going to buy yet. Will more than likely depend on what the insurance give me for it. Rare enough car here so not sure.

Was thinking a Golf, Mini Cooper, 1 series or maybe a Focus.

Tis' a pity, they're nice looking cars. How'd you find it?
I thought about one a few years ago but the lack of boot space did it for me.

Oh, some cnut chipped the paint on TWO of my door handles today. Not the same, but I'm still pissed.

RCZ, get an RCZ. Last year I was intent on buying a CRZ but ended up with a very high spec RCZ for not much more and it's a lovely car

Yeh the boot space was annoying but I got used to it. Loved it apart from parts costing a fortune. Needed to replace a wing mirror and cost 600.

The RCZ is one of the most interesting modern designs out there - nice looking cars.

@Stench blossoms - sorry to hear of your nightmare - frightening stuff :(:(

Just witnessed the absolute worst overtake attempt on Carr's Hill heading into Douglas, as the road splits to allow overtaking just past the garage an 04 Golf went to overtake a slow Taxi with me behind him, apparently it had no power at all and only eventually overtook him just as the two lanes merged and this was all still at like 95/100km/h :D

Probably a 1.4 they just don't pull great at all specially with a few people in it. I remember been in a friends mk5 and he was going down the slip road to merge onto the motorway and I thought we were never going to get up to speed forget about trying to get to 120 kmh by the end of the slip road.

Didn't have any badges on it anyway bar the GOLF badge, I don't think 1.4's were badged were they?
