I know I've had enough when I start getting sunburn on the roof of my mouth

Usually a 70cl bottle of absinthe followed by 30+ beers. Might have some turpentine chasers if it's a big might out.

    Am I doing this right?

Pffft lightweight. Absinthe is for the Junior Certs, not grown adults

Not a race, I like to just sit and relax in the pub with my mates, roughly 1 pint per hour. Usually head out at 10 or 11 , these days would have 8-10 pints when out for a long night before having a kebab and heading home.

But you're in a civilised country where there's no curfews and a crazy rush to get as many drinks into ya before they have to turf you out...

I gave up alcohol for most of lent, and now my tolerance has dropped like a tramp's knickers so that I can barely manage a bottle of wine without falling up the stairs.

The other night I brought a tumbler of vodka to my bedroom, to get me through the boring chapters of a book I am reading. Suddenly, I realised 'this is how Amy Winehouse met her maker'. I had to finish the drink to relieve myself of the panic, and then lay in bed wondering if this made me an alcoholic.

I hate how modern culture makes us feel guilty for consuming alcohol. How nice it would have been to live in a time when you could go about half-cut and keep a bottle of whiskey beside your bedtime reading, and nobody would shriek puritanically about it.

On a regular night out then 10 to 12 pints of Guinness and a couple of gin and tonics would be the average.

Second day syndrome would easily result in 15 + pints (if out early)

I'm not saying this with some kind of "hurr hurr I can drink lots" pride, I'm a grown man and I know that's an obscene amount of alcohol to consume.

I also know that I'd be considered a binge alcoholic by many, and truthfully, I have abused alcohol for all of my adult life, it's not something I'm in any way proud of and when I think of the amount of money I've literally pissed away, it sickens me.

Around 7 or 8 pints is when I call it a night. I have a remarkable awareness for when enough is enough thankfully.

My tolerance is far too high.

    What's your booze limit?

With wine, I can only really have one bottle; it used to be two but now I'm getting older, I can't tolerate it anymore and I get tired.
If it's lager or cider, I can drink five cans and I'm full. Same with pints.
    What about you?

Are you a bottomless pit when it comes to booze or are you p*ssed after two glasses of sherry?
Or do you just get tired/emotional?

Not sure I understand the concept.

Surely the words 'booze' and 'limit' should not be in the same sentence.

About 3 cans before I fall asleep.

Sorry but anything?? You have two pints of all pintable drinks? No you haven't and I don't get this I've never acquired a taste for alcohol!! What drinks were you having, everything isn't pints you know!! Holier than thou attitude right there!!

Shocking as it may seem (if you're 12-years-old), we don't all like the same things. No idea why you think that's the same as having a 'holier than thou' attitude.

I don't drink very often these days, but I'd usually only have two or three cans / bottles / pints for taste, rather than to get drunk. There is the odd session where I'll meet up with the family, or go to an event, or see old friends and drink from one morning to the next - but it's not a common occurance.

As for limit, it depends. Sometimes you have those days where you're falling asleep in your chair after sniffing a Guinness. Other times each drink only makes you feel more energetic and alive - those days usually result in a really awful tomorrow though.

    It's hardly that remarkable.

I'd know fellows who'd drink 20-25 pints. Now it would be over the bones of an evening...and they are alcoholics...but certainly wouldn't say 16 is something outrageous, particularly amongst older heads.

I myself would drink 10 or so, then I just tire of it. If I'm out out, might switch to vodka after that. That would be once a week, I don't drink at home in between.

I like a pint but if people think 20-25 pints is normal then there is something wrong.
Worked in a pub years ago and people who drank that much were ones with problems and you would see the effect on them.
A normal casual weekend drinker would rarely reach those levels. It's a dangerous level of drinking.

Yeah I think about 16 pints is roughly a standard night out. Sounds like a lot really saying I had 16 pints but it's not really considering the time frame. A pint every 30 mins or so on average I'd say would be the norm for a lot of young lads anyway. Monday to Thursday I wouldn't have a drop.

That's some swallowing lad.. Could do it in the noughtys but if I hit 10 now I'd calve.. But send me on a stag and I come into my own again..

The last wedding I went to people started drinking at 1pm and kept going til about 4am. Is that common at most weddings?

1pm would probably be a bit early, but approximately yes.

Depends - what time frames are we talking?

If it's with a meal, 2 pints or 2 glasses of wine would be as much as I'd have as a maximum, more usually I'd only have one. If we're talking a late evening out with friends it could be up to 4 pints or so, depending very much on what's on offer. If it's just your standard pub beers, I'd probably stick to 1 or 2, if they've got different beers I haven't tried yet I'd see how far I get :)

5 pints of Guinness and 2 jamesons and I'm ready to call it. I find the tolerance the day after a session is greatly increased, especially after only a few hours sleep.

Anybody saying in excess of 10 pints is having a laugh. 10 bottles sure but 10 pints, do one.

but if I hit 10 now I'd calve.

    That's a side-effect I've never considered.

Don't live in Ireland so don't really drink pints anymore.

I can wear my way through a fair bit of drink over a night. I'd reckon upwards of ten pints. Pretty much only drink beer, rarely anything else.

    @Aidric
Nope, I've done more than double that on the second day. And there are friends of mine can handle it way better the more they have.
Now don't get me wrong, I was more than good for nothing for days after but recall going home an all.

Since I lost a lot of weight I can go through WAAAAY more alcohol then I used to. I always though it was the other way around...

Had a few nights recently where I drank a bottle of Vodka (0,7) and maybe 5 pints after 11 hours shift and wake up next morning with no hangover. I was still fully functional.

It depends upon so many factors really but I can't understand why you think it'd be impossible? I used go drinking with a friend of mine on his night off and he'd easily drink ten pints of Carlsberg while I'd be taking the odd gulp of Guinness as we'd be chatting and usually I'd only have maybe four or five pints.

I always found pints really filled me up and while I wasn't drunk, I just couldn't fit any more. I like to pace myself nowadays, rather than just when it comes to shorts one after another. It just wasn't doing me any good, and my friend had to cut down simply for financial reasons.

It all depends on the pacing. If there was a gap for a big feed then maybe it's doable but as you say pints are very filling and bloating. I would find it hard to believe someone could sit still and skull in excess of 10 pints uninterrupted.

I limit myself to 15 pints on weeknights as I have to be up early to drive the school bus
