If the rust isn't caused by other damage it should be covered by the antiperforation warranty.

That Phaeton is bad though. Door sills and everything are showing signs which is extremely unusual on modern cars.

It's better to burn out, cos rust never sleeps...

I am quite anti VAG but you would think by this point in time they would have a good grasp on corrosion protection. I spend most of my time in two decade old toyotas and there's never a spec to be seen, on what would be considered an inferior car to most people.

Im heading to Kilkenny tomorrow - does anyone know of any decent garages that sell cars around 2004 to 2008?

The only garages I know in Kilkenny is the chain of them (Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Renault, Peugeot) all on the same road - but by the looks of it, they dont deal with anything under 2010.

    Go to carzone
    Search dealers in kilkenny
    ????
    Result!

Well my wheels came anyway. The bad minded cnuts gave me no wheel nuts, no valve caps and tires literally on the thread bar, despite them saying "oh there's 60% on them". Not only that they came with the air let out of them... until I went to pump them, slit in one of the sidewalls, was so pissed didn't even check if the rest were punctured. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me....

I'd be sending them back with a very "polite" note attached

Lyngs in Hebron have a sh!t load of cars that age that they don't advertise some can be rough but some are good clean examples. They are main dealer ford and hyundai. The ford garage is right down on the road near mcdonalds but the hyundai is up a bit behind it in the industrial estate most don't even realise it's there most of the cars are stored there. But if you find the ford they will tell you where the hyundai is.

Barlos on the dublin road who are opel and nissan main dealer are sound out too but they would only have a limited enough supply of secondhand cars worth a look though.

Its mostly main dealers advertising there. There's bound to be a few garages selling a few second hand cars around that done have them advertised - I know there's a lot of them around here in Tipp!

I was impressed with Lyngs when I was there last time but a lot of the older cars there for sale (2000 to 2006 maybe) had not been valeted and were there for sale, which was off-putting.. But still had decent enough cars!

Barlo's in Thurles dont have much at the moment but still have a scatter of the older cars.. Hopefully Kilkenny will have a few!

Any more garages in or near the city?

And they were filthy! Have the nuts from my own wheels and they will fit fine. There's sfa of them alloys for sale and I got them at a good price, regardless of the tires, so I'll just keep them. I'll just wait until the tyres I have on the alloys now are worn down and I'll out new ones on the 17's then and pop them on. Stacked in the shed until then it seems!

David buggy is a kia main dealer based in the industrial estate just after lyngs only a few hundredh meters up the road. They generally keep a good selection of secondhand cars although I haven't been there in a while.

Walshes are a toyota garage just a bit before lyngs. They generally only have a few secondhand cars mainly toyota but may be worth a luck. They are suppose to be very good to deal with.

Will definitely be calling in to the two of those garages. Last time I was in Kilkenny they were locking up so I didnt bother them.

Whats the Peugeot garage like do you know? They have one or two nice cars which I wouldnt mind having a look at..

I've never personally bought anything of them neither have my parents but friends and relations have and they all only have positive things to say about them they are around along time now. So if I did see a car there I liked I would have no issue buying from them.

No comment on them I've already got a slap in the wrist via pm with them.

I mean it was just my personal experience they have a huge customer base and are quite popular just I'm personally not their biggest fan. If they are offering you a good deal on a car and you personally find them good go for it same with your friend don't let me put you off them. They are around a long time so many people obviously find them good.

Anyway you'd be better off not naming them as they are searching this site using the keyword obviously.

Oops, after changing the name so maybe it wont come up in the search!!

Anyhow my friend just called me, he is after getting a 151 Citroen Berlingo. So that rules him out of coming on our trip tomorrow :p

Good few years back I used to sell a service to the motor trade. Called Lyngs one day and asked to speak to the boss. He came on the line and announced himself 'Kneeling speaking', thinking I heard wrong I asked him to repeat himself: 'This is kneel ling', he said or so I thought. Slightly confused I laughed awkwardly.

Turns out his name is Neil Lyng.

    I didn't get the sale.

No, they're far too stupid to do anything even close

They'd have to dial back the vocabulary about 5 notches anyway ( spaking riddles so they were joe, talking about coronaries joe) and bullet point it for average joe.

Oh also I was in a taxi in Spain going to the airport on Tuesday. It was a 2008 onwards mondeo 1.8 tdci I recon possibly 2.0tdci estate. The one thing I noticed was it was very smooth no knocks or rattles well minded gear stick was very worn that was about it. Looked at the clock 399k km on it. It's mad felt like there was 100k ln on it. Just shows what a car can do when minded loads of life left in it too. Yet in Ireland and I'll admit to being a bit like this myself whenever anything hits 200k km it is considered massive milleage.

Them gear knobs are notorious for showing wear, mines quite bad too, bits of chrome on it flake off, black colouring fades to a whitish colour.

So I've found a buyer for the V6 that I'm happy to sell the car to.

I'm not ashamed to say there were times when I wanted burn it to hell, but damn, hearing that V6 roar tonight, I was so chuffed

I'm glad that I had the experience of such a car (the OH test drove a V6 Jag that was in bits lately and at the first opportunity asked me to drive)

I'm dead chuffed its going to someone with the time and space to not only do the small things requierd, but repainting and everything.

I'd be giving quad massive thanks, the sheer fun is hard to replicate

Thanks to him for the true love and enjoyment, and finding the new owner who will love it just as much

ps reason to move on I hit over 2.5k mileage claim this month

You'd a 2.5 k mileage claim....I'd have used that v6 all days long if I was getting mileage. Glad to hear you enjoyed it's time. That's the thing about alfas...when they dont work you want to see them burned to the ground, when they do work you dont want to be in anything else.

Was it the chap I put in touch with you? If so it's going to a good home.
