    Monday 23rd

Way too windy to run. Some of the strongest gusts I've ever been hit with. Running easy wasn't an option at all. Running at HMP which I had intended to do was going to be counter productive if not impossible. Settled for 5k at moderate effort which turned out to be 9:12 avg pace.

    Tuesday 24th
Wind had died down a bit so went off with the intention of getting some HMP miles in. Started off a little slow and worked into it over the first mile. Stopped at 6.55 - half of a half marathon.

9:04, 8:23, 8:13, 8:12, 8:09, 8:17, 8:27 (.55 of a mile incl a few seconds lost crossing a road) Finished up feeling strong enough and certainly able to do more miles at that pace.

For those with an eye on Bohermeen betting. ;)
    Avg pace 8:24 = 1 hour 50 HM
Avg pace once going 8:15 equates to a 1 hour 48 HM

Nightmare week on the personal front at home and running had to take a back seat for a few days. Got out tonight for a leg loosener ahead of my last LSR pre Bohermeen which will hopefully be tomorrow morning.

    Saturday

3 Miles at MP and 1 at HMP

What is it with wind these days ? Since I had missed a couple of runs this week decided to just go and hit these paces no matter what the effort level required was. Easy enough uphill with the wind behind me pushing me but much much harder downhill on the way back. A rather strange that's not right feeling :D

    8:49, 9:14, 8:57, 8:14

For the record I'm looking at 9 min pace as MP. I'm a long way off October of course but the slowest I will be aiming for there is 3:55 so intend to spend the rest of the mid year as such getting very comfortable running at that pace and bringing my easy run pace down towards 9:30. Of course if things are looking even better by October then happy days :)

Did you do any warm/up cool down miles PM?
You should always get in at least one mile easy before and after a session like that. Helps from both an injury prevention and recovery perspective and also helps bulk out your mileage.

Yeah Meno - I usually slow jog / walk for about 3/4 of a mile either side. Where I live is quite hilly right from the front door up to the estate entrance so I tend to walk all the way out as I reckon going straight into running uphill wouldn't be a good idea.

    Sunday 1st March

11 Mile LSR in bitterly cold sleet and icy rain.

I wanted to get a run in close enough time wise with projected finish time for Bohermeen. I know that won't make much difference fitness wise but confidence wise that the legs are ok for that kind of time frame is more important to me. Set off in ok conditions but by mile 3 everything had gone polar and I was freezing. I didn't have gloves with me and my hands were in agony out in the cold. Ended up tucking the hands back into the sleeves and not looking at the watch at all for the rest of the run.

I was aiming for an easyish effort within 60-70 seconds of goal HMP pace. Pace varied a bit with terrain and face fulls of sleet but I believe effort was constant.

    9:16, 9:10, 9:19, 9:29, 9:19, 9:16, 9:05, 9:23, 9:15, 9:25, 10:20 C/D

Finished quite strong with plenty left in the tank but at the same time the moment I stopped I seized up with the cold. :D Happy with this. Plan now is easy miles for the rest of the week with a couple of HMP thrown in along the way to keep the legs tuned up to the faster pace.

Strava tells me I ran an unofficial PB for 10 miles 1:32:59 during this mornings run. My official PB of 1:47:05 was set back in 2012 so is obviously well out of date. Might give the Raheny 10 mile a go on Easter Monday to rectify that. :)

I haven't raced too much over longer distances at all actually. My one and only effort at a proper half marathon race also in 2012 was 2:18:30 so PB beers are almost guaranteed next Sunday. :D

To be fair it wasn't so bad at the very start but yeah staying out in it took a bit of will power :)

    The swings of running.

Bohermeen AC put up on their website that they are going to have a pacer for 1:45 at the weekend. A little part of me was wondering would hanging onto a pacer give me an edge of an extra couple of minutes. Decided that no it wouldn't and I would be stupid to try and hang onto a pace I'm not 100% ready for.

Went out tonight for 4 miles. 2 Easy - 1 HMP to stay in touch - 1 Cool Down.

    Walking warm up - check
    2 Easy 9:26, 9:25 - check
    1 HMP - 8:24 - a BIG struggle to hit 1:50 HMP
    1 CD 9:40 - check

At the start of the day contemplating 13.1 miles at 8:01 pace
Ending the day struggling to do 1 mile at 8:24 :D

Only catching up here now PM.
I can verify that Sunday was one of the worst days I have ever run on (and I've run on a lot of bad days!).
I was well wrapped up and was still almost numb for a lot of the run. I couldn't feel my fingers for 40 minutes when I finished (and I was wearing gloves!). No matter how unpleasant it is this Sunday, it can't be as bad as two days ago. It just can't be. It's not possible.

    Friday 6th

Took Wednesday off as planned but missed my run last night due to unforseen circumstances. Wasn't going to chase miles this close to race day so elected to do the planned short and sweet 3 miles I had originally planned for today. Nice and slow build up, then one let the legs loose (not 100% flat out) and one gradual slowdown for the 3rd mile.

10:01, 7:41, 8:53 taking out a 0.8 mile strava segment PB during mile 2 whilst not at all out pace. Happy with that and a bit of an improvement on the last fast mile I did.

    All set for Bohermeen now.

On the subject of Bohermeen. Regular readers of the log here will have seen me harp on about the athletics forum charity handicap sweepstakes fundraiser I put together for PALS.

I've said this on that thread but wanted to say it here too that I am truly blown away by the support you guys have given this. A huge portion of the support given to this came from regular readers / contributors / friends that swing by this log. I never expected the level of support and generousity that shone through from the community here. I simply can't thank you enough.

You've made me really proud of this place.

That should be a foregone conclusion. 2:18:30 is current PB :D

I'm sure I will see you beforehand - should be close enough in the lineup if nothing else. :)

The temptation to head off hanging onto the 1:45 pacer will be immense. :D PB beers for sure !
