Next time your Southside go a bit further, there's some lovely runs from dunlaoghaire-sandycove-dalkey or killiney hill, beautiful!
Yes I will really have to do some running out that direction. Get the dart out maybe and run back.
Might be in touch to get some route ideas.

Only catching up on some stuff here now - I don't comment a lot on other people's logs but here goes.

    Well done on the PB.
You love running and part of the challenge is improving and setting yourself time goals.
However, as somebody else above has suggested you can also look at IMRA or XC for a different type of running challenge. Running for pure effort where time doesn't matter - it's like racing as a child again. The IMRA races gave me a mental break from time chasing and also made me appreciate how easy road races are :) - just mind your ankles!

For a taste of IMRA like stuff the trails around Howth are close enough to you.

Best of luck with whatever is next anyway.

Your report reads to me like you were travelling well, got a stitch, lost time and mentally gave up after that.

    +1
that's exactly what I took from the report. I reckon if the stitch hadn't occurred then you would have pushed hard near the end. I know that feeling when you know your goal is gone and you're thinking sure what's the point now? (Obviously I don't know if that was part of what you were thinking).

I don't know if you had, but I always have a gold, silver, bronze and consolation target to aim for at the start line. It means even if things aren't going to plan and my gold target is drifting away I still have a back-up target to chase and keep me honest.

Yes, the one thing we can all agree on is that I love running:D

Thanks PY for taking the time and to the other posters for the comments yesterday and today. I was trying yesterday to stop myself analysing the whole thing too much as it was wearing me out a bit. However, all the comments and suggestions are more welcome that you can imagine and everything has been noted.
I looked up some of the Howth trails today and will definitely try something like this in the future. There's some great info here on boards for suggestions for different routes. I'd like to try something like that on my own to start with to get a feel for it so might do a walk/jog recce over weekend.
    Thanks again. Much appreciated!

ps: 'racing as a child' brings back horrendous memories of coming last in school races and the horrible associated pressure and feeling of failure:o:)

    Tuesday 10 February
    am: 6 miles easy

    AIS pre run

Beautiful in the Phoenix Park this lunchtime. However I was feeling pretty dreadful starting out. My sleep has been abysmal since last Thursday and I haven't had more than 3 hours sleep a night since then so it finally caught up with me today. Couldn't go to work as brain couldn't function and focus properly so luckily it's a day where I'm my own boss. So what else is a girl to do with a free day except go for a run to the PP! Enjoyed it once I got warmed up but didn't want to force anything longer or more intense due to the fatigue.

    pm: 4 miles easy
    AIS pre run
Was doing some research on stitches today. 'Himself' has suggested it could be a tight psoas causing it as I'm not doing anything with food or drink or breathing that is obviously causing the problems. So I lay on the bed and followed a YouTube video to try and locate my psoas and attempt to release it with a deep massage with my fingers. I was there lying on the bed and thought, hmmm maybe I should close the curtains. Too late:eek: A neighbour (not one I've ever spoken to thankfully) was sitting on his balcony smoking and had a lovely view of proceedings:o I don't think I can ever leave the apartment again.
By the way, in other stitch news, I forgot to say but often when I have stitches in my stomach, I get one in the front of my left shoulder also. It's not a pain, it just feels exactly like a stitch in my shoulder. I've researched it and yes it's common enough for stitch sufferers. I've started a stitch diary :) Riveting stuff.

Nice little pm run with the same effort as morning run but a bit quicker.
Enjoying my 'free-style' week with no sessions or any pressure. Perfect timing!

    Just close the curtains first!

    Wednesday 11 February
    Rest

A bit of a cold today and very tired. Not very surprising when I look back on how I've abused my body since the race and not treating it like the temple that it is. Hummed and hawed about running and decided to be sensible for once. Regretted it immediately..

    Thursday 12 February
    AIS pre run
    7.5 miles easy

Still not feeling great but I don't think I'm capable of being sensible 2 days in a row. Thought I'd be fine once I kept it super easy. Did that and was absolutely fine.

    Friday 13 Feburuary
    AIS pre run
    8 miles easy

As above and kept the heart rate nice and low again and felt good. Certainly felt better after the run than before. Legs felt very strong tonight. I think they're looking forward to stepping things up a gear next week.

    Saturday 14 February
    7.5 miles easy

    AIS pre run

Monthly drugs run. Feeling pretty awful during the night but some good codeine blitzed the pain and I was good to go.
Felt fcuking fantastic for this run. Felt like I was putting in zero effort but the pace was a lot faster than my usual easy pace. Yay-fcuking-hay I coulda run all day and night and would have only for I had to get dolled up to go spend a few hours celebrating the life and times of a dear friend.

Johnny ya mad bastard, what the fcuk were ya doing man but you are the ultimate rockstar and you died like you lived which was just right.
The party never started until you stepped into the room you legend.
    bye bye hot Johnny x

    Sunday 15 February
    10 miles easy

    AIS pre run

Feeling pretty dreadful this morning. A combination of a few things... so decided not to start into my new plan until tomorrow and allow myself one last day of doing what I want and just run easy and stop and come home if not feeling up for it.
I felt great during the run. Breathing perfect, body strong, good upright posture, felt lovely and relaxed and could have gone on forever. Pace was a lot faster than normal for my easy effort running. It felt like someone wound me up to run for an hour and a half, let me lose and I just sat back and enjoyed the ride putting in no effort whatsoever!!

Enjoyed my easy week but time to put the head down (not literally ;) ) and get moving my ass a lot quicker next week! I'll be revisiting some hills that I haven't been near for quite some time so quite looking forward to that.

    Tuesday 17 February
    4 x 30 sec hills off 4 min rec

    AIS & LungeMatrix pre run

Feeling a bit sluggish and form faltering on the warmup. Kept having to remind myself to buck up and stay tall and not slouch. Was a bit tired...what's new!
3 mile warmup and then I got to my hill. Chose Washerwoman's Hill in Glasnevin which is quite steep. Made my 30 second mark on the first rep and ignored the watch from there. Enjoyed these. Tried to stay as relaxed as possible using quick light feet. The reps were over before I knew it. When I finished I was like 'wtf, is that it?' Would have loved to do a few more but in hindsight I think this softly softly approach is the best way to go as this time last year I ended up with glute strain after attacking too many hills too vigorously. I do however feel I've built up a good strong arse in the past year with thousands and thousands of myrtl, lunges and AIS exercises so it should be ready to take on the world!

Cooldown back to car and next thing I fall smack down hard on the pavement on Home Farm Road. First thing I did of course was to stop the watch :) Then I did a quick check of head (didn't bang it), teeth (ok), face (ok), legs/hips/lower limbs in gnereal (all good).
Surface damage is all THANK THE RUNNING GODS FOR SPARING ME! Hands and knees skint pretty badly so I won't be wearing mini-skirts for a few weeks but other than that everything seems ok. Broke in to a light little jog almost immediately as I was so cold and my hands were hurting so much that I had to keep moving to get the blood flowing. Jogging seemed absolutely fine so I think I'm ok, just a bit sore.

Ouchers, glad you're all right. Not really the weather for mini skirts either so you'll be grand :D Just pay attention to any niggles you might (but hopefully won't!) get as a result, sometimes the adrenaline from a fall means you don't feel the damage right away. Stitch in time and all that :)

Cheers BG. It's almost exactly the same kind of fall I had a few weeks before DCM 2013 and I was fine after that so fingers crossed!!!
Probably a combo of poor sleep last night and running in poor light.

Booooo.... It's always ok to wear mini skirts :D:D(T&C apply)

But I do agree, keep an eye on it, when the dust settles you might notice something :)

No doubt it'll be fine, I've gone splat more than once (hate running in the dark!) and got away lightly thankfully. C'mon Daylight Saving, let's be having ya.

    Wednesday 18 February
am: 5 miles recovery to easy

AIS and foam roll pre run

Brilliant night's sleep :) Hands and knee very sore and 'stingy' from the fall but didn't hinder sleep. A bit of bruising here and there but the 'structure' seemed sound getting out of bed and when moving around. Another lie in for the lads (Fr. Ted anyone?) with an 11am start to the day :D Life is good!

Started out very carefully but concentrating on good strong running form. No niggles whatsoever except a bit of soreness around the areas of soft tissue that are cut and bruised. I'm SO happy I didn't do damage!! I never take not being injured granted for one second and realise every day that I am so so lucky that I haven't had anything hinder my running for a year now.
Picked it up a teeny tiny bit as the run went on but kept it easy in general.
    10:16 avg pace

    pm: 4.2 miles easy
AIS and Lunge Matrix pre run

I must've done 5 hours of cleaning today. Gosh how boring! I guess it was a bit of a workout in itself.
Another little trot around the local park which is now open all night. It used to close at 5 but for some reason they leave the gates open all night now. It was starting to get dark from 3 miles in and the regular radio news reports I was listening to were reporting about that escaped prisoner on the lose and there were helicopters flying over head and the park was very quiet so I legged it home a bit earlier than planned.
All my bits and bobs are feeling good I'm happy to report except for the sore hands and knee and a bit of a sore shoulder but no big deal.
Tried to do Myrtl routine when I got home but I could only do some of them due to being unable to kneel down. Concentrated on the standing ones. Foam rolling is a bit 'ouchy' too atm as it's hard to put weight on my sore hands.
