Right lads have a game I've been playing the last few days to improve your scoring. It's really helped me. Hit lots of 180s + 140s since I started. Maybe we could put our scores up here to watch the improvement. Basically you just throw 100 darts at 20s. A treble scores 3. A double scores 2 and a single 20 scores 1. My best is 102 but im usually somewhere around the 80 mark. Can play on 19s or 18s if you like. Same scoring.
    Game on.

Wait a month or two...too cold in the garage! Hands are so cold I wouldn't hit the board with a box!

Haha. Alot of people on here seem to be playing in the shed. I built myself a little portable stand for my board, handy out!

I might try and negotiate getting the board inside, there's room upstairs but any pockmarks on the floor or wall and there'll be trouble!

Ya you'd need some kind of mat or something for the floor anyway. Good thing about the shed is you can play at night. I'm not allowed throw once the child is in bed :-(

I suppose if I had it in a cabinet and a mat then I might have more bargaining power. I have two boards in the garage both of which are fairly knackered so it might just be the time!

20% off a mat combined with this too, all in for about 80 bucks board looks ok

Look up 'DartMate' Big enough to stop stray darts hitting walls and also no drilling needed

I was in sports direct last week and they had Barney board/cabinet for about £30 I think.

Haha. Great darts though, fair play. I found it improves my scoring alot. I play it 2 or 3 times to warm up before a match

Tried it there first go 91 second 97. Good game I'm guessing 100 is a good score, trying to match scores with darts thrown. 2 flyers to tops helped also!!!

Decided to have a go whilst waiting on a chinese delivery, bad idea. I'm blaming hunger for an abject display and only 72 total, I guarantee I will beat that no probs with a bit of grub inside me!

Completely off-topic, but you remind me of a story my grandfather used to tell. A traveller man was being employed for the day to pick potatoes by a Galway farmer. Not two hours in the farmer notices that the traveller is hopeless and he asks him why he's so bad. The traveller replies "An empty sack can't stand upright sir".

Eager to get the job done the farmer brings the traveller in to his house and gives him a fine feed. When they go back out picking potatoes the farmer notices that the man was still slow. The farmer says "You were telling me an empty sack can't stand upright but I have you the finest feed and you're still not working hard enough. The traveller replies "Aye sir, an empty sack can't stand upright, but nor can a full one bend!"

Yeah sorry for the completely off-topic post.

Ha, just saw the above post now, very appropriate!

I have tried this 3 times since, twice yesterday 82 & 87 and just finished it now and got 90, It's improving as I go along, I'm throwing too many strays! 100 would be a fairly decent score!

To be on a pro level you'd need to be averaging 100 pts per 3 darts, so by my maths I make it you would need to hit 5 x 20's for every visit on average, and with 33 visits plus one dart ( for 100 darts) that would mean your score would be 165 to keep pace with the big boys! Obviously I'll never get anywhere near that, if I could I'd be going pro and unfortunately I'm nowhere near good enough!

To be up with the very best you'd want nearly 6 20's per 3 darts!
The average for the first 9 is often up around 120+ and the overall average brought down by the lower scores needed to finish so you'd want to be up nearer to 200!

Very true point albeit only a select few average 100+ on the regular, a good solid 95 average would leave you doing pretty well, so that would allow a bit of leeway.

Don't forget the pressure of doing it up on the big stage in front of thousands wearing fancy dress and a huge TV audience! :pac:

Tried this out got 85 started off well but the more darts I constantly throw, the worse it gets.

Haha it's usually the opposite. Good darts though, Anything over 80 I think is good enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,882 ✭✭✭bren2001

Got around to this yesterday. Hit 78. Got a lot of 1's and 5's with a smattering of treble 20 which made the score respectable.

Been play this game for a year or so, really improves your scoring. My best is 116. The darts forum has a program that can keep track of your score. Great program.
