Dark/ Black Lager

Does anyone know where I can get some Black/ Dark beer. Note, I exclude the Guinness Black Lager from this as it is pure p*ss :). The products I am aware of are:

Kozel Dark - Czech beer, I last saw it in Lidl in Cambrils, Spain & previously in Prague. For me, its a lovely beer.

Budweiser Budvar Dark: This is beautiful, last seen in Nutgrove off license but they said the importer no longer imports it (I think I was the only customer for it)

Negra Modello - Mexican dark beer, got it in Spar recently, nice but not like the previous 2.

I'm not mad about Dunkels, these are different beers.

So can anyone recommend other dark beers or know where I can purchase the above in Dublin?

Poor old Budvar Dark. Sadly missed.

The likes of Pifko and The Czech Inn usually have Kozel Dark on draught.

I've seen Krušovice Dark in SuperValu recently -- it's pretty decent. Probably my favourite dark lager is BrewDog's Zeitgeist but availability is spotty. Decent offies like Redmond's or Deveney's would be the places in south Dublin to try on spec.

Weltenburger Kloster Barock Dunkel and Augustiner Bräu Dunkel (Munich Dunkels) are usual available from good beer off-licences

Krombacher Dark is decent, I picked it up in the Comet Off-licence in Santry ages ago, but don't think I've seen it since.

Was quite fond of Köstritzer when I was in Berlin, have never seen it in Ireland though.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

It's been around. Lidl had it for a while. Haven't seen it in ages though.

Thanks for the replies. Ive tried most off licenses, but the guys working there just normally say 'never heard of it' or 'Erdinger Dunkel'!

Must keep an eye out for the Krušovice Dark & Köstritzer.

This used to be my favorite before I discovered hops(west coast style)

My old local still gets bottles in from time to time, 5 for €10 although think it was 4 last time I checked

    That's a weissbier, not a dark lager.

I've seen Krušovice Dark in some Tescos. Tesco Merrion were doing it for around the €2 mark a while back.

Köstritzer Schwarzbier turns up in places occasionally. I know Whelans on Wexford St had it last week. But if you pop into Whelans or good offie's like Redmonds, McHughs or Deveney's you're bound to find some class of dark lagers.

Some of the Black IPA's are lovely too. I know I know not a dark larger. I'm just saying is all.

Maybe the poster is confusing weisse dunkel with a Munich dunkel and other dark lagers?

I think posters here have used this site before.

not sure about how the duty works, i.e. don't blame me if you are stung.

Excise is not exempt within the EU, I think some places do it all above board and charge irish duty. I think others just hope it slips through.

I notice that site does homebrew kits too, not sure if they always did.

Possibly am, I dont like the Weisse Dunkel but do like dark/ black lagers and I think these are similar to Schwarzbier, Munich Dunkel & Vienna style beers. I might be wrong :).

"Some of the Black IPA's are lovely too. I know I know not a dark larger. I'm just saying is all."

I do like IPA's but have never come across a Black IPA, can you recommend one?

Thornbridge Wild Raven is an excellent one.

Kinsale Black IPA is great stuff, in many places now. Best value if you can get it in Dunnes.

Now that the floodgates have opened...

What about porters? For example Baltika porter is excellent value and quality.

Bernard Dark.. Sadly even with it becoming more available in England I have never seen it available here.

OP asked about black lagers and back IPAs. Just saying... :)

    Nope.

Someone suggested black IPAs and OP had an interest.

Hence the floodgate statement and porter suggestion.

Kostritzer and Krombacher are my favourites, not a fan of Krusovice at all.

My local Carry Out stock it. Presume they all have access to it?

Edit: Think porter is the 6 though.
