I agree there. Can't score a goal to save his life. Chicho is a goal machine. Problem is his build up play. Welbeck is better in that respect.

We need to be realistic about Hernandez, he isn't going to force a regular spot in the team and so he should be sold while he is still a saleable asset. We have more than enough striking options without him, and as it stands he is sitting on the bench running down his contract.

If United had made it clear he was available this summer you cannot tell me there would not have been clubs interested. Its been mentioned a few times that United don't get value when moving players on and Chico is another example of this, at one point we could have gotten £20m+ for what was a 3rd choice striker, the call should have been made then. Instead his value just falls year on year.

Benatia left out of Roma squad for tomorrows game and some places were reporting that Bayern had pulled out of the deal so we would probably have a clear run at him if we want him.

He was linked to United, and then Bayern got some injury and then he was suddenly linked with them? Have I got it right?

    Hernandez

    2010/11
    Starts 27, sub in 18, goals 20

    2011/12
    Starts 22, sub in 14, goals 12

    2012/13
    Starts 22, sub in 14, goals 18

    2013/14
    Starts 12, sub in 23, goals 9.

He has a very good goal record. No surprise he has not developed his game that much without consistently playing. Another player who needs a move to play as a first choice.

Welbeck and Wilson could potentially replace those goals.

Yup Martinez did his knee in AFAIK.

The 'Bayern have pulled out' stories are from a couple days ago AFAIK. Sky Italy reported yesterday that Bayern had increased their offer to €30M which is close to what Roma want so Bayern may or may not be still in for him.

Whether Utd want him is another question...

I am being realistic. For himself he should go. It doesn't mean I'd be happy about it :p

Telegraph saying that Welbeck has been told he can leave.

as much as i am not really a fan of his, again that makes no sense - we wont have any players left if thats the case. it cant be good for squad moral either. likewise, when our inevitable injury crisis sets in, id rather Welbeck up top as opposed to having to rely on Will keane for example.

for example, Nani cant have been a good influence around the dressing room last sunday if he knew he'd be leaving 3 days later. same for Fellaini (prior to injury) and Ando, with Hernandez not exactly secure either.

i wish all this s*it was sorted during the summer. eitherway, i doutb this is true unless Wilson is going to be #3 striker.

OK let's say it's debateable about Rooney, so apologies my post above came in late.

My main point being when compared to the top 6 in relation to resale it's not good news at all. And this is an clear indication of the obvious regression in the squad.

It's a tortured indication of nothing in particular. If you want to fret about the quality of the squad there are much clearer ways of doing it.

If welbeck goes to a decent team where he's played week in week out, he will prove his doubters wrong I believe, similar to what Sturridge has done(A lot of pool fans didn't even want him when he signed).

If this is true then maybe something is in the pipe for a winger of another attackign threat.

Not a Wellbeck fan. Rather Chico but £15M for a 23 year old England striker seems like a bit of a give away.

You have my vote, but the daggers will be out if you don't have Mats Hummells by the end of January.:)

LVG must be trying to get rid of any player that has pace.

Bit of a weird one, I'd say its bs. Wouldn't mind seeing him go if a replacement was lined up though

Hmmm, and why exactly is it a 'tortured indication of nothing in particular'?

It's clear as day what the current level of quality we have in our squad is, when the valuation of most of our players is going down and not up.

Not like it's been a major problem or anything recently...

Stpehen Hunt and my 6 year old have pace but they'd be f*ck all use at Man Utd.

Nani, Wellbeck both underperformers. Move them on.

I reckon the Welbeck thing is bs. Don't see why we would sell him especially when we have other players that deserve to be at the club less than him.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,762 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Welbeck is not that fast with the ball at his feet. He is normally caught by defenders.

I don't want him sold btw, just saying.

And that's another problem. Man Utd's fear of letting mediocrity go.

Welbeck would have helped you v Swansea.

If anyone should be sold up top it's Hernandez

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,060 ✭✭✭✭adox

I'd guess there is close to zero chance of Welbeck being sold.

And I agree with both points.
At least Welbeck has the ability to inject some pace into our attack.

But be warned though....Hernandez splits opinion in here big time :pac:
I want him sold unless he accepts the fact that in my opinion he is best as an impact sub which isn't going to happen.

For what it's worth, I've never been convinced of the journo who's reporting the Welbeck stuff, Matt Law.

looking at the debate here on squad value and all that, how ironic is it to see that our current squad is worth much less than what we pay for it and more to the point, the astounding £181million a year our club pays on wages (including all staff not just players).

and to think Fergie had this obsession with value, when weve got multiple over rated players stealing a living off the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,369 ✭✭✭UnitedIrishman

Think Welbeck is very underrated by many. It's not just the work rate and physical presence he gives us, but our build up play looks infinitely better when he's in the side because he's an outlet for attack.

I'd be fairly annoyed if he's sold on.
