Btw when Van Gaal was appointed how many were so sure about him falling out Rooney or Rooney getting axed first, now it looks like both like each other. Van Gaal praised Rooney and Rooney praised Van Gaal methods.

He is looking very fit and he is asked to stay upfront. Hopefully this season he will break Law's goal scoring record.

I presume if Kagawa was being considered as a cm option we would have seen him play there last night.

Here is the transfer news we all are waiting for.
    Milinkovic deal finalised

FK Vojvodina have confirmed a deal has been finalised with Manchester United for Vanja Milinkovic.
Club president Zoran Scepanovic addressed a press conference to announce the details of the transfer of the 17-year-old goalkeeper.

"After lengthy talks that have taken place over the past month, we have finally completed negotiations on Monday and we can officially inform the public that our young and promising goalkeeper has joined Manchester United," said Scepanovic.

"He will remain in Vojvodina for the next year, where he will be under the supervision of our experts and coaches from the English football giants, while continuing to train and perform in the jersey of his home club. This is an opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the realisation of this transfer. Can I point out Manchester United's very correct attitude."

The Reds announced in May that a move had been agreed and the teenager would be loaned back to his current side before arriving in Manchester after the Serbian season.

Although he only turned 17 in February, the 6ft 7in keeper is an Under-19 international for his country, along with his brother Sergej.

It was said quite a bit. Not sure how many, if any, were 100% sure they would clash but the idea of it stemmed from two points. Having two strong personalities and having an excess of no10s.

For now its happy families between them and its Kagawa who looks like the no10 who will get the chop.

So at the end of the day a quality no10 is still getting the chop or, at best, will see little game time. Not a situation I'm happy about but was inevitable given the imbalance in the squad.

IIRC there were reports that Van Gaal wants 20 first team outfield players for this season.

With the preseason done and players getting sold, we might end up with these players.

    RB: Rafael, Valencia
    LB: Shaw, Young
CB: Evans, Jones, Smalling, New CB

CM: Herrera, Fletcher, Carrick, Cleverley, New CM

    AM: Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj.
    ST: Rooney, RVP, Welbeck

That's 19 players and we have young players like Blackett, Keane, Powell, Varela.

I don't think Valencia has done enough to impress LVG in pre-season, I'd hope for/expect a replacement.
If we get a new CB and CM too - and they are improvements on what we have, not squad players like Vermaelen would be - ...

    De Gea
    Jones Evans New CB
    Shaw/Young Rafael
    Herrera New CM
    Mata
    Rooney RVP

Ah leave him alone. Toni Kroos stood him up. He's in a glass case of emotion.

if we are to play 3 centerbacks, given our injury record there we need at least 6 players though perhaps he will include Blackett and Keane in that 6.

I'd say we would need 2 centre halfs. Not necessarily big names, just decent players so we have plenty of cover

I would think Vermaelen would be an automatic pick ahead of any of the defenders that are there at the moment and reckon we need at least 2 new CBs urgently. I expect Jones to be given a chance this season but have my doubts it will work out, Evans also will see plenty of games but is not the answer if we’re serious about a title challenge. Smalling might not survive the transfer window but either way is a poor option for club of United’s ambitions. If we’re going to play 3-5-2 then we need at least 5 CBs to choose from but given the lack of talent out there I would settle for Vermaelen and another player of his quality for now.

We've 3 senior CB's and you think we're going to sell another?

If we can get 2 more in then yes I would.

There ain't a whole pile of world class CBs out there that are a) available and b) looking to join united so I would settle for Varmaelan and another for the season ahead and plan ahead (can't believe this wasn't already done) for next summer and bringing in someone of Hummels quality.

The fact that David Luis moved for €40M or whatever it was illustrates the lack fo CB availability out there

(Benitez) told the Italian media: "It's hard not to talk about the transfer market -- names keep cropping up constantly. For Fellaini, it's all down to United, not us.

"In midfield, we're looking for a player with the right winning mentality. If Fellaini arrives immediately then there won't be any problem getting him used to our system.

"I have to draw up my list of players for the Champions League so we don't have much time. He's not been playing for United so we've just got to wait and be respectful.

"We'll wait until they get back to Europe and then maybe you journalists can change your headlines."

So basically Fellaini to Napoli seems to be down to if Van Gaal gets the midfielder he wants in the transfer market, he's not going to be left with just Cleverley, Fletcher and Carrick to pair with Herrera.

Given the number of options we have in CM, I think it would be very silly to let Fellaini go, even if we sign one more player in that position.

I know he had an awful season with us last year, but I think it's was rather unfortunate for him the season that was in it. I think we should give him this season to see what he can do for us then.

Little bit unfair on him that LVG has given him absolutely no chance to prove himself too.

To be fair, he started and finished most of Belgium's games in the World Cup and played up to the Quarter Finals, he's just been rested through the preseason tournament I think; sure it's the same with Januzaj.

As far as I know they've been training back in Manchester. It was probably different for Hernandez as he only got as far as the last 16 and was used as a sub only.

Got both home and away Kits, AON top is far nicer.

Without CL football, it's likely that 2 first teamers and 2 back-ups would be more than enough to play the vast majority of games. As it stands, we have Herrera, Carrick, Fletcher, Cleverly, Anderson, Fellaini, and then if you are pushed, Powell, Kagawa (LVG said he might try him there), possibly Lingard.

If we signed one more first team CM player, he'd likely start off most games with Herrera, with Fletcher, Carrick and Cleverly as back up. Fel would be battling for 5th or 6th choice CM as it stands. The reality is that with one more CM signing, we probably wouldn't need him this coming season. Unless there's multiple injuries, he wouldn't get more than a small handful of games...

What justifies your opinion to play Jones but sell Smalling. I don't exactly see what both players have done for you to come to that conclusion. That tackle last night shows how much Jones has to learn added in with his reckless tackles getting himself injured. Thought Smalling looked very good last night. Both deserve a proper chance at first team football to develop.

Also i think you are overrating Vermalen a bit here i would rate Evans above him for starters.

Fellaini is better than Fletcher, Cleverley, Anderson, Powell, Lingard and Kagawa. If he stays at the club he should be 3rd or 4th choice midfielder. A few months with niggling injuries in a team destroyed with no confidence or no idea of what they were supposed to do doesn't make him a bad player.

His best form no doubt came from moving to being a target man. Before that Everton broke their transfer record for him, he was a regular in midfielder for Everton for years and picked up 50+ caps for Belgium.

What do you reckon Van Gaal will spend the winnings on lads?

Cheeky big for Ibra? Di Maria? Ronaldo? Messi?
