Makes you wonder if we were best selling lambs at a lower weight but at a higher price a few weeks ago, instead of finishing them out at 45kg

What are ye lads thats have lambs ready for going to do? Wait a week and see what happens?

Surely no way it will drop below 4.50 base?

That's what I am doing anyway. I wouldn't say it can't fall below 4.50. Look at the cattle. Every farmer around here had a very good lamb crop this spring. More lambs around this year. Need the live trade to take a boat a week to keep the factory honest.

Usually have too much grass here so I keep them as long as possible

Heard they were selling lambs for export in tuam mart last wednesday and they were getting €62 + the weight for all lambs.
Does anyone know if this is every wednesday or when is it on again?

Live exports are very slow. exporters are nervous about payment.
factories know it too, hence the drop inprice

It was only average, €350 - €1000, average was about €550, €1000 ram was only a one or two star, the ram was way overfed,
My rams weren't really fed well enough, I got €560,€520 and €500 and two didn't get sold.

Pictures on post 504 of the sheep photo thread are our vendeens out of lleynX ewes, half the ewes that bred those would be out of lleyn rams, the rest of the ewes would be 25% lleyn

    Heavier lambs

    6@46kg, €98

Reports from Carrigallen was store ewe lambs were fetching €90.
Heavy lambs weren't making much more, & no interest in breeding hoggets.
    Some dry ewes made €80
Just walked in & out, nice bit of stock about, small Suffolk ram & 1 good charolais cross.

Sounds nuts to me. Every fellow must expect this year to be an exact repeat of last! Where is the profit to be found in a €90 store? Even to keep her for a hogget, nothing in it for the buyer.(IMO)

Ewe lambs were mad that night, wait til you see the queues next week waiting to get in, two ewe lambs 53kg made €131

So I sell my fit lambs at €95 and then buy stores at €90? Thing to do is sell everything and sit tight..........

The only thing I can think is that a lot of people that normally buy store cattle must be buying store sheep instead, therefore pushing prices up. I'd prefer to have an empty field then loose money at those prices.
