Where would you see him fitting into Liverpoools midfield?

    Where ever he wanted.

    Don't see it happening.

Fabregas is a wonderful footballer. People's capacity for revisionism is amazing.

That works both ways...didn't someone say yesterday that he would be a ready made replacement for Yaya?

Lambert deal will be announced when Ian Ayre gets back from Spain where he is trying to tie down TWO players.

But has he brought enough rope with him??!!!

I was just asking where do you think he would fit into our midfield. Just for the purpose of discussion.

It's not revisionism, but having an opinion.
Not a player I have ever been overly fond of, obviously talented but did not like how he moved from Arsenal and now wonder why Barcelona want to sell him.

He's tended to play in the front 3 a lot of the time for Barca I think. If we are to persist with a holding playmaker type and two runners ahead of him, perhaps Fabregas could play the playmaker role to good effect. Not sure though.

Fabregas is a Billy Big Boots, wouldn't want him at the club. Its a bit irrational I know but 30 million and wages aside he just annoys me.

As for the two players Ayre is looking to keel haul back to Liverpool I suppose it must be Moreno and Pedro that Valencia kid the Academy are after.

Forgot about that wonder kid we are chasing.

    Good shout.

I don't really. Rather than splash 30 million (without taking wages into account) I would rather we address other areas of weakness first, specifically defensively.

There is chatter regarding one of the veterans of the central midfield game - Seydou Keita, who as it happens also plays for Valencia. Seems a slightly odd one if Can is a serious target though.

The can transfer is a bit of a mystery to me. I just don't know enough about him. From what I have read, Bayern seen him as a centre back.

I wasn't having a pop. Just pointing out that when players leave the PL their reputation loses its lustre. Fabregas moved to Barca at a time when they've had several changes of manager. During his time at Arsenal he was a fabulous footballer.

Please push the boat out and do everything to sign Fabregas.

Getting a World class player like that in would be unbelievable and would immediately have me believing we could challenge for the league right off the bat.

We're talking about one of the greatest midfielders to have graced the Premier League. A couple of the seasons he put in towards the end of his Arsenal career were just phenomenal.

The issue with wages is a totally valid one, and it's right to say it's not just a simple case of spending 5m more than Lallana.

    BUT -

    Lallana 25m plus estimated 60,000 wages over 5 years = c. 40m total

Fabregas at 30m plus estimated wages of 120,000 over 5 years = c.60m total

For me it's still a no brainer to go after a genuine World Class player who has shown he can be the best player in the league if given the right circumstances.

C'mon FSG, we're back in the Champions League - this is the type of player we could never have dreamed of signing, and now there could be a shot. Go after him!

Shaqiri talk seems to be picking up again and hopefully a sign we have moved on from Lallana.

    Sooner the better imo

its easy to see its not your money , it's still an extra 20m whatever way you dress it up, would you want to sign him if he cost 45m but was the same wages as lallana??

I haven't seen a huge amount of Shaqiri but when I have seem him play for Bayern, I haven't been hugely impressed.

20m amortised over five years is 4m a year, hardly gonna break the bank, or have any bearing on our future signings. I was happy to see us pursue lallana as I think hes a good player, and hed fit well with Liverpools style of play, but its getting ridiculous now. No way should we spend 25m on him, never mind the fact weve bid it it and its getting rejected. Walk away from the deal and spend the 25m on someone better. Fabregas over lallana is a no brainer

Yeah def (as long as it didn't hinder plans to bring in more recruits) it's just a different spin on it, slightly high transfer fee, very very low wages.

It's hard to put a price on that type of quality when you're a club that can't usually expect to attract such established quality off the bat.

In his last 5 seasons in all competitions he has:

    Played: 165 (29)
    Scored: 58
    Assisted: 66

The gulf between his and Lallana's careers at similar ages is just incomparable.

The guy has played in the biggest matches in football, and like I said is one of the best players I've seen play in the league.

20m more over 5 years isn't much when you consider what we would be getting.

Anyway, if City, Chelsea or even United come in for him we would probably lose out on wages, and if Arsenal want him back he may well go there.

So I'm not expecting anything but I'd like us to try

When he was with Basel he was outstanding I thought.
The way Bayern play now under Pep doesn't fully utilise his attributes, a bit like Sanchez at Barca. Both would excel in a more counter attacking/moving the ball from back to front at speed type system that Liverpool employed last season over a more patient pass, pass, pass system Bayern are currently using.

He's seen very liitle game time too tbf, no real run of games.
He's also adaptable, can play RW and LW.

If he's available for the figures touted £16-18m, I'd be delighted to see him signed

Rakitic and Fabregas available for around the same price. It's a no brainer to walk away from this deal.

There was mention of Rakitic c. the EL final.
Real also supposedly interested, which if true means Liverpool won't get him. Also someone here posted a figure closer to €40m as a ballpark fee.

Lads, I have no idea why you insist on doing this to yourselves. We saw the same thing happen with Mata last time. Just because he became available, people thought he was an achievable target.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,819 ✭✭✭EuropeanSon

In buying Lallana, you're buying a good squad player. In buying Fabregas, you'd be buying the best passer of the ball in the league (besides possibly Ozil). People comparing the two need their heads examined.

Not that I believe Barcelona would sell him in any case. With Xavi getting on and their next replacement for Xavi being Alex Song (!), and a transfer ban potentially on the horizon, they'd be mad to.

Liverpool are a more desirable destination at the minute though with CL for next year.

That said, if the likes of City or Man Utd are interested they'll win any battle V Liverpool for his name

Are people really saying they wouldn't want Fabregas? I don't think we can sign him but if we did I would be absolutely delighted, he's a brilliant player! It would deffo be a jizz worthy signing!

At the time if LFC had of had the money for mata he could have been an LFC player . To me that's a player who wants to play and feel valued by the club he is at . So I do think mata could have been got if the funds where there .

Fabregas is a better player but I don't think he would be better in our team than Llallana

What's with all the Talk of Fabregas?

I seem to Recall, that Arsenal have the 1st Option to Sign him back. So even with Arsenal having Millions of Midfielders themselves, I doubt they'll let us Sign him, when they have a Chance to do so.

EuropeanSon, is right though. I doubt Barca would let Cesc go, when he's the Heir-apparent to the ageing Xavi.
