Can't get my head around the Lambert move at all. Hes 32 and imo simply isnt good enough to have in a squad that wants to be challenging for the Premier League.

If this is all part of the Lallana deal, well I still think its a daft move. Never mind the 4 million plus add ons, but we have to pay his wages too.

Lallana imo isnt worth over 20 million but now factor in Lamberts wages on top of it.

With all the positivity over the course of last season, our first signing is going to be Ricki ****ing Lambert.

I really hope we have better than this lined up. (and better than lallana).

Fa cup, Carling cup, champs league games when were three up and can bring him on.

    Hell get plenty game time!

@Moley_LFCDT: Liverpool have made an offer for Shaqiri. (Kicker) they broke Can news

Dont see the similarities with gary mac myself. Gary Mac was a free and made 30 league appearances in his first season and was at times a key player particularly in the 2nd half of the season. I cant see lambert starting more than 5/6 league games unless we have bad luck with injuries and he isnt someone that will be improving our starting line up whereas Gary mac did.

Reports from BBC Radio that Southampton have turned down the offer.

BBC (web) reports that Liverpool hope to have Lambert coughing gently for Dr Zaf on Saturday.
The Reds are hopeful Lambert will be able to complete a medical on Saturday before flying out to Miami with the England squad on Sunday.

Southampton rejected a similar bid from West Ham in January but are set to cash in on the 32-year-old.

    Rickie Lambert factfile

    Blackpool 3 games 0 goals (1998-2000)
    Macclesfield 49 games 10 goals (2001-2002)
    Stockport 110 games 19 goals (2002-2005)
    Rochdale 68 games 28 goals (2005-2006)
    Bristol Rovers 155 games 59 goals (2006-2009)
    Southampton 235 games 117 goals (2009-present)

Southampton have not yet accepted Liverpool's offer for Lambert, but talks are continuing and if Saints receive a bid they deem acceptable they will not stand in his way.

Maybe all this Lambert talk is just a smokescreen before we sign Messi?

I think Lambert will be a good signing. Experienced, good finisher and strong.

Why are people worried about his age. He's 32, not dead you know. Players can play longer nowadays and is a much better option than Aspas.

If Suarez/Sturridge were injured Aspas was the next option.

Lambert is a great addition to the squad especially for 4M

I agree he is a good option and would have no problem with him for <5million as the backup is non existent and lambert ticks a lot of boxes as the 3rd striker. I just dont see the connection or comparison with the gary mac signing.

For one thing, how do you know he's not Good enough? You don't.

For me it's Simple. Does BR want him and/or Lallana? If Yes, then that means they're Good enough for Liverpool.

Heck, I am not even Worried about the Prices being Quoted. Being the Manager, I'm sure BR knows what kind of Budget he has at his Disposal. If he wants to Blow the Majority of it on Lallana and Lambert, then that's Fine by me.

Sevilla want an extra £2m for Moreno, Suso won't go there. Saints want a bit more for Lambert. Lovren & Lallana talks continue. (Times).

Didn't see the Lambert bid coming. Good signing at 4m but would be way down the list of players I want from Southampton.

Not a single mention of this on twitter before today just goes to show how unreliable it is as a news source.

I'm hours late but I was busy in the beach and up the mountains.
    Re:Shaw
All Shaw is experienced at is playing for Southampton in the premeir League. A mid-table club with no real aspirations and the players hadn't dealt with the pressure of expectation like that of the top of half the table. And top half of the table, if not top, is where Liverpool are aiming, so Shaw has no proven experience in that regard. So doesn't outweigh that Spanish dude, Moreno.
Shaw has more experience at a younger age as he plays in a comparatively weaker tema than Moreno and Southampton like advertising their youth product so they can sell.

And of course there are more failed European players than those that come good, that's the way of football and can be said for any region or nation.
But there is probably more majorly successful Europeans than Englsih in the premeir league since the turn of the century and there are some notable English flops from a smaller pool and some major flops at that. For every Lampard or Scholes there's a some guy I can't remember. For every Aspas there's a Jeffers and Carroll.
Premiership proven is the biggest most hollow bonus to give a player over another in terms of who may be a better option.

I'd prefer to keep Suso and give them the 2 mill.

At last we might have a plan B . We would have won the league with a plan B. Our team was crying out for a plan b at times last year. And this plan b is premiership proven, the best type of plan b.

Signing Southampton players may be a bit glamorous but they'll take straight to Liverpool's tactics and fit right in without the need for an adjustment period.

Expensive but good business overall I think.

lol going by your logic any player would be good enough. Of course I have faith in Rodgers after what he ha done with the club, but on a football forum, we all give our own opinions.

Sure lets go out and sign Ricky Van Wolfswinkle and Johan Elmander. Rodgers will turn him around.

Sure Aspas was a terrific signing too.

Apologies, I didnt realise I wasn't able to give my own opinion on footballers that I have watched.

You do know you can form your own opinions from watching players?

Good point actually, hadn't thought of it like that

    I think plan b shouldn't involve attackers.

Watched redmen tv earlier on and they mentioned Lambert as someone who would give a different option up front but not necessarily in Carroll type CF mould. Good finisher, experienced so for 4m it could be a shrewd move by Rodgers (even at 32) as its unlikely we'd pay big bucks for the top bracket who will likely play back up to Suarez and Sturridge. Keep Borini too and can focus on sorting out the defence/midfield issues

Fair enough. Yet, have you considered the need for a Plan B?

You got that from my Post?

Yeah, sure we can give Opinions on here. But the Problem I had with yours, was its Dismissive Tone.

You don't think he's Good enough to be in a Squad challenging for a Title. I mean, really? We're talking about the Starting CF for Southampton. IMO, that's more than Good enough to be a 3rd/4th Choice Striker for us, alongside Borini.

Sure, there maybe better Strikers out there, than Lambert. But for 4 Million? I can't think of anyone better.

And Aspas? That's the Point I was trying to make. It's Clear that Aspas wasn't a Rodgers Buy. That's why we have to make damn sure we get the Players that he actually wants. And if that Player happens to be Lambert, then so be it.

How is it clear Aspas wasn't a Rodgers buy but Lambert is?

He didnt always start for Southampton either. Often came off the bench in games for them. If Osvaldo hadnt fallen out with everyone at the club he could have ended further down the pecking order.
