And we will get some spare change from selling Reina,
I bet we don't. his wages are prohibitively high. It's very unlikely any club will pay us a transfer fee for the pleasure of being able to give him £100,000 a week in wages if that's what he's actually on.

Reina and Johnson are both in the same boat in terms of transferability. There mght be clubs out there who would like to have them but why would the player agree to a transfer on lower wages when both have the option of staying on the payroll with LFC and running down their contract at which time any club signing them won't have to pay a transfer fee and can therefore spread the money saved on a transfer fee over the life of the contract as "extra" wages.

If we want rid of Reina or Johnson this summer we're likely to have to pay off their remaining contract and/or give them a free transfer. These guys are professional players not fans, they (quite rightly IMHO) look after themselves first and put the interest of the club second just as the club puts its own interest first and looks after players second when the time comes to release loyal players now deemed surplus to requirement.

It's a dog eat dog world in the football business. Don't ever confuse what you'd do as a fan with what you'd do if you were a professional player.

    Ben

We can agree so that to come out and say, definitely, that one player is definitely better than another, is fairly ludicrous so?

    :pac:

Also, in terms of attacking style, I think Moreno suits our system more, actually. Shaw is an orthodox crosser when he gets forward, almost Downing like, and its not exactly how we play.

Anyway, get either and I'd be ecstatic. I do think Moreno is more of a realistic option for us, however.

Think we can leave it at that :)

To note: I think he would be a nice buy for Liverpool, was never doubting that just so we are clear.

Yes he is worth so much more because he's the better of the two and the younger of the two. That's where the valuation of a players quality typically comes from.

Pulling in wage calculations  another discussion altogether.

    .

why take it out of context?

my reply was to a post which basically stated the main difference/advantage left between the two players was EPL experience.

I agree Ben, I don't think either player is required to put us first. I do think we will get a fee for either as they are under contract and still got a few years of high performance left. They would know that even if things were going better, any new contract wouldn't have been on the same terms as before...

French media reporting Benzema is close to agreeing a new deal with Real Madrid :)

wee also look to have ended our pursuit of Emre Can

In what way, don't come on here with your contentions and not link some evidence! :p

Oh found the "evidence" here - posted by a 15 year old on twitter
    Cristian Nyari
    @Cnyari

Liverpool have also supposedly ended their pursuit of Emre Can. Definitely needs another year at Leverkusen at least.

It's comically obvious you brought the valuation into the discussion.

    I discussed experience.

    last 2 seasons

    Luke Shaw - 68 appearances, 0 goals, 1 assist

    Alberto Moreno - 67 appearances, 3 goals, 4 assists

    What does that prove?

    That proves nothing

As goal and assist stats on their own always do

all this linking to articles promotes an atmosphere of mistrust.

If I said the Pat Fenlon to Southhampton rumour was gathering pace, you would demand some sort of link?

Its like you dont trust me ;) Im offended

Shaw may be better as some point out but Moreno seems to be quality, and at approx half the price of Shaw i could live with the small loss in perceived quality if 15m can be spent elsewhere.

Shaw is not worth £30m in the same way Lallana isn't worth £25m.

Getting a quality full back for £16m is a no-brainer, he doesn't have to be a world beater, just have the potential to be one., plus we get 15m to spend elsewhere.

I do think that Shaw will develop into a cracking full back though.

Exactly, he isn't as good but Liverpool would have an extra 15 million to spend elsewhere.

As Liverpool showed last season you don't always need the best available to be successful, Gerrard isn't the best DM in the league but he is effective in the system. Moreno should be a good LB for a Premier league team

Getting good solid players all over the pitch should be Rodgers' aim now, when you get to that point then you can start getting in the luxury players like Shaw and spending that bit extra

    That proves nothing

As goal and assist stats on their own always do

But you no doubt have the stats that prove Shaw is a better defender and attacker? Stats that are much more important than goals and assists?

Will be even more hilarious when Shaw ends up at Chelsea.

Cue this being reposted if he signs for United.

A little tip - lightly butter the outside of the bread and put it back under the toaster again...magic!
