Shawcross isn't a bad centre-back either, in fact I'd rate him higher than both caulker and williams and would hope rodgers would select the best available player rather than merely a player he has previously worked with

    Poor Fernando. My heart bleeds.

Don't worry Fernando mate, Stevie moved on and found a far better player called Luis Suarez.

Torres never gave Kenny and FSG a chance, no time for him.

I haven't seen much of him but I do like Filipe Luis. Thought he was great in the Champions League final.

Moreno is 21, already has more experience and pedigree than Shaw, and looks like he would be cheaper?
Maybe we ARE learning after all...

Even if Moreno doesn't make the Spanish squad (unlikely I'd say since Alba and Azpilcueta are ahead of him) - he is still a lot closer to the Spanish national team at a young age than Enrique ever was.

Shaw has played more premier league games than Moreno has played la Liga

Who's getting riled up? I was just pointing out the contradiction in your post.
What do you expect to happen when you say it's all kicking off over there..... people are going to go look is what!
But best avoided..... sure, that's going to happen. :D

Shaw has played more premier league games than Moreno has played la Liga

15 more games not much really.

Moreno also as won a EL and has one more cap for Spain than Shaw has for England.

Moreno has also more goals and assists than Shaw.

So you can make stats suit whatever way you want.

Honestly, there is a lot to be said for getting proven Premiership players.

BR said he wants players to fit straight into the first team. Hope it happens

Outstanding player any time I've seen him. Would LOVE to get him in.

So would you be willing to pay £15m more to get Shaw over Moreno because he has played 50 PL games?

Nah 15 million is too much

Shaw is absolute quality imo but so is Moreno.

For the fees being touted the Moreno for £16mil makes a hell of a lot more sense than Shaw at £25mil.

but not forgetting the all important factor when talking about new signings;wages.
Well I doubt if Moreno would be getting anywhere near the reported £120k a week that Shaw's being offered.

So over the term of a contract (and maybe way beyond when you take how long they potentially could be at the club)
then it's Moreno all day long.

So people need to rethink and revalue how important that 'premier league experience' is really worth.

Ok, if we compare First Team games (including Europa for Moreno), there is only 2/3 games in it. So they are about equal.

    FINE!

I get Shaw is young, but his output isnt actually that great in terms of stats. I do appreciate that stats dont say everything but it would make me wary particularly with the large price tag attached to him.

Sevilla is a much larger club then Southampton so while Shaw has the "adapting to the league" advantage, Moreno has the "adapting to a bigger club advantage"

I was just pointing out a slight error, not turning into a Moreno v Shaw again

As I've said before Shaw is a lot better IMO, even at 30 million he's still better value than Moreno at 16 for me

Leaving the comparisons aside 16 million for Moreno is a good deal, Chelsea will be in for him though if they can't get Shaw, so I can't see Livepool getting him at that price

To be fair though the Spanish players generally adapt very well to the epl. If you want proven players and don't buy English, Spanish is the next best thing.

Every defender is prone to the odd error from time to time, especially when young and/or adapting to a new league and country.

It's always a risk when a foreign player is unproven in the premiership. Nothing to rethink. Shaw has proven it in this league. Moreno has not.

Not to knock his quality he looks a tasty player from the clips I have seen and 16 million would be a tidy purchase but it's Shaw all day long if comparing both.

Moreno is 21, Shaw is 18.
