I cannot think of a single reason why Liverpool should sign him. Jordon Ibe will be better than him in a year.

If we were selling Borini he'd be as good an option as any, assuming he'd cost peanuts (which I assume he would).
If our backup striker is playing, regardless who they are, we either don't care about the match or we're in trouble.

And there's always the small chance he'd come good and fulfil the potential he briefly showed.

We really don't know that. Look at Coutinho, he didn't exactly set the world alight at Inter or Espanol - looks good, but not a world-beater. But we have helped him to push on.

He's only 23, he had a 1 in 4 scornig record for Barca before being farmed out. His confidence is at an all time low, and he would probably be on a free? I would have taken a risk on him over Moses 9 months ago, and I still think he could be worth a punt on an incentive-based deal...

Well if he's willing to get the head down and re-learn his trade, and we can get some good out of a clearly talented player, then maybe it would be worth a pop?

Yea but it might be at the expense of say Ibe who is ready to burst onto the first team..only to find out Bojan cant be 'fixed'

With regards to Remy, i'd rather see us strengthn defence and in the middle first, don't forget it would'nt be hard to stand out in that Newcastle team!

    Rodgers signs new contract
Fenway Sports Group today announced that Brendan Rodgers has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool Football Club, rewarding the great progress that has been made over the last two seasons.

Today's announcement brings further stability to the club, securing the services of one of the brightest managerial talents in the game as Liverpool continues to develop its on-pitch performance.

Rodgers helped secure a return to Champions League football at the end of a remarkable 2013-14 campaign, guiding the club to a second-place finish in the Barclays Premier League.

Principal owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner today jointly said: "We are very fortunate to have a hugely talented individual leading our football performance and in whom we place our trust to deliver the vision we share for Liverpool Football Club.

"Brendan is at the heart of what we, as an ownership group, are trying to achieve on the pitch. This season has reaffirmed everyone's belief that we can bring football success to Liverpool and we are all committed to working together to achieve that.

"Players and supporters have made it clear how important Brendan is to our success and so to have him commit to us for the long term is a great boost for everyone going forward."

Rodgers said: "I am both humbled and privileged to be offered the chance to extend my stay at this great club. I am very happy to build on the foundations we have built over the last two years and now we move onto the next phase which I believe will be as exciting, challenging and rewarding.

"I would like to place on record my thanks to the players and staff, who have been absolutely brilliant for me since the day I started at this great football club. I am grateful to our owners and senior management team who have supported me and who share my vision of how we can progress on the field.

"Finally, I must thank the supporters who are at the heart of everything we do here. I am honoured every day to lead this team and I thank the fans for their continued support as together we strive to bring success back to Liverpool Football Club."

    Could have killed him
Well obviously not but just as a scummy thing to do as biting someone is.

Bojan is interesting. Hugely rated a few years back at Barca as previously mentioned, but for whatever reason has dropped off the radar.
Compare to Sturridge....highly rated youngster, career stalled, then gets new lease of life and has incredible season.

    I'd have him.

Hardly comparable, one act is petulant, the other is nuts

Is it wrong to be wary of signing Remy after the rape allegation?

I know he wasn't convicted but it's hard to disassociate him from it.

I also seem to remember hearing various stories about bad behaviour (can't remember what sort now).

For some reason he rubs me up the wrong way.

    Was that the allegation?

It's very unfair to judge him on this but unfortunately it's one of those things that stick and I'm wondering if the club feel the same way.

I'd like us to try and get Bony myself. I think he would be a better option but he wouldn't be cheap.

    Was that the allegation?

Gang rape involving two other men while he was at QPR.

The charges were dropped as far as I can tell.

Edit: Oops. I'm a dummy. I misread your post. :o

I agree with you on that. Just a bad feeling every time we are associated with him because of that allegation.

He isn't the first and will not be the last and a lot of footballers hang out with a less than stellar crowd of hanger-ons and nothing was proven against him.

But i'm still less than keen to be associated with him because of it. Probably totally incorrectly too:o

I was listening to TAW earlier, I think it was the last part of the season review. They were saying that the reason Rodgers hadn't signed a new contract might be because he wants more power when it comes to transfers, hopefully this has been sorted out and he gets the players HE wants this summer. We wasted a lot of money last season on Aspas, Alberto, Cissokho and Illori. Not far off £25m, if that had went on a single player ready for the first team in midfield or attack then we genuinely could have won the title.

Same thing happened to RVP, I recall...

I think they are getting the Rodgers contract news out so it doesn't detract from the deals for Lallana, Shaqiri, Can, Garay, Alves and Moreno...

Have the Cissokho & Moses loans finished yet - any confirmation they are returning to their clubs?

In fairness Ilori is a bit young to be written off straight away ! Alberto was cheap by the crazy premier league standards and Cissohko was necessary. Although not great we needed an emergency LB at a tiem when injuries threatened to derail us. Not marvellous, but necessary and fairly solid. Aspas was a gamble that didn't pan out. Hopefully BR is learning that a different calibre of player is required. I have no problem with young players who dont feature straight away like Ilori, he might yet be an excellent signing.

The truth I feel is that if we hadn't lost Henderson we might have sustained our run.

    What's this about Alves?

Why is Ilori being written off?

I wouldn't dream of writing off Illori so quickly, I firmly believe that all young players who stand out at underage level should be given a chance of some sort in the first team. He wasn't needed last summer though, that was my initial point, apologies for not making that clearer.

Alberto looked decent against Norwich(I think it was) and hasn't been seen since, a strange one because I believe he has all the attributes needed to succeed.

Aspas and Cissokho were a waste of £12m though. That extra cash could have got us Mkhitaryan in August and Konoplyanka in January.

Think Illori was one signed for future. They more or less said so straight after he signed that he would likely go out on loan for a while.

The thing it, we don't know what might have happened it we had a deeper squad. If we had signed Kono in Jan, he would have been starting ahead of Sterling, and we might have missed some of Raheem's moments of magic against Everton, City and Soton. I think Henderson was missed, but there were many other factors that caused us to not win 2 of the games he missed...

I mentioned something similar last week, as links to the likes of Lallana seemed at odds at what we'd seen in the recent past and suggested Rodgers might be pulling the strings a bit this time given his position. Hopefully he uses his imagination a bit more this time though.

In fairness, that deal was scuppered by a mad owner not signing a release form. AFAIK it had nothing to do with money as our bid was accepted.

An extra 6m on top of the initial offer might have swayed him.

We didn't buy Cissokho, and Aspas was about £7.5M.
Mkhitaryan was not missed out on cause of money, he chose a team operating at a might higher level.
And Kono deal was agreed but the owner wouldn't sell...

Well in that case, we should throw an extra 6M at EVERY deal, just to make sure...
