Shame we didn't sign Diego Costa last summer.

Diego Costa -- Balotelli -- Suarez

Seeing as the Instanbul anniversary was yesterday, what do you think would be our best starting XI if you could choose from 2005 and 2014?

    I'll have a go

    Mignolet (just about)

    Finnan
    Hyypia
    Carragher
    Riise

    Alonso
    Hamann

    Gerrard (2005)

    Sterling
    Sturridge

    Suarez

As much stick as I have given Reina since 2010 onwards, from 2005-2009 was one of the best keepers around, most certainly in the EPL. Mignolet should be nowhere in the conversation based on that alone, tbh.

Sterling had an awesome year, but Kuyt should get the nod ahead of him for now too.

Yay just back from a 2 wk ban, its gas though that as poor as our team was in 2005 more players from that team would get into our current one then the other way around

Reina or Kuyt not an option in this fictional team I believe as it's only our current team or the CL winning team. That's the way I read it anyhow.

Yep, the Champions league winning squad, so it's Mignolet or Dudek, not much in it really. Could have gone for either. Reina in his prime far superior to both but not part of this hypothetical.

I'd have Dudek if only for the save he made off Schevchenko, I mean how the hell?

This is just someone guessing at numbers after this morning's reports I would say.

Some of the papers seem to just be pulling two predictable names out of a hat on a daily basis.

Lallana, Clyne, Schneiderlin, Shaw, Vorm, Remy, Cole, Lovren, Shaqiri, Bertrand. It'll be Williams and Diame before long. It gets people clicking.

Williams wouldnt be a bad centre half for Liverpool

Remy around £10m is a no brainer, he scored 14 goals in 26 games last season for Newcastle, who were absolute toilet for the 2nd half. Has CL experience too.

Unless you are producing it yourself English talent is just too expensive to buy. £25m for Lallana is not good value.

Would take Remy in a heartbeat, fantastic centre forward!

Well if he's a preeek that scores goals and stays for a couple of seasons as backup to SSS then im fine with that. Would be perfect for imo.

And Michael Chopra is threatening to "expose" him which culminated in Williams deleting his twitter.

Williams also has an autobiography; delusions of grandeur there. Bit scummy as well hoofing the ball off a player's head when the player was on the ground.

Why do you want Ashley Williams as back up to Sturridge Sterling and Suarez? :p

    AjaxFanzone.NL ‏@AjaxFanzoneNL 26m Liverpool versterkt voorhoede met ex-Ajacied Bojan Krkic. #AJAX

Bojan raced onto the scene 5yrs ago for Barca and labelled as the next big thing.

in recent times loaned out to Roma and Ajax and his career (imo) has seriously stalled..thats it then we are signing him.

not the first time we are linked either.

Yeah wasnt there a lot of talk about him last summer? Or maybe xmas. Would be very unsure of him to be honest.

I cannot think of a single reason why Liverpool should sign him. Jordon Ibe will be better than him in a year.

Well if he's willing to get the head down and re-learn his trade, and we can get some good out of a clearly talented player, then maybe it would be worth a pop?

it you could pick anyone from 2005 to 2014 then mascherano ahead of didi and torres ahead of sturridge for me.

imagine a team with masch, alonso, gerrard, suarez, sterling and torres playing together all at their peaks

Wouldn't see the need for Bojan when Borini is on the books.
