Very dissapointed if thats true. Assume they couldnt resolve the problems with his visa.

Hopefully there is some be it first refusal or sell on % clause in his contract incase we're still interested in him further down the line.

    Stoke want Assaidi -
    David Anderson @MirrorAnderson

Mark Hughes says he hopes to sign Oussama Assaidi permanently. Stoke prepared to pay between £3m and £4m.

    Assuming its legit of course....

Ah no! :( I'm going to assume the work visa malarky is the reason.

Hodzic had a work permit granted last Summer, so that's not the reason why he's left. Have to say I am puzzled at us letting him go. With Ngoo set to leave, with Yesil seemingly crocked, we are very short on underage attacking options.

He's worth more than 3-4 million, good player who never put a foot wrong for us when he played and Stoke fans seem to love him.

I think we can get a couple million more for him, if not use him as a bargaining tool in getting a club to part with a player we want.

we definately should be asking for more than 3-4million.

Stoke are big enough spenders relatively speaking and he will improve them. Hes an international aswell so its about time we started playing hardball and stopped offloading our own perceived deadwood at knockdown prices.

Surprised at people harbouring such low expectations for us in the cl next season. I would have us at better than 50% to reach the last 16. Obviously we could get a nightmare group which would alter my expectations but i still wouldnt be throwing in the towel if we were drawn with say juventus dortmund and monaco. And **** this just a bit of fun mentality, were there to try and win it. Its highly unlikely but its been done by weaker teams in the past, and every english team that qualifies for the champions league should be wanting to win it and almost expecting to get out of their group. Its not often they dont and its often a big talking point if they fail to qualify.

Obviously a lot depends on the group but I would think we have a good chance of reaching the knock out stage. Even coming in as 3rd seeds. I doubt very many 1st or 2nd seeds will want us in their group anyway.

Agreed there will be plenty of teams looking to avoid nights at Anfield. Goosebumps thinking about it again.

The upsurge in confidence in the Utd today is a bit mental

They're gonna sign Ronaldo, Robben, Cavani, Kroos, Hummels and Fabregas and win the league next year followed by the league/CL double the following year :pac:

I wouldn't bet against it. The league is bonkers.

It's pretty obvious why people are singling out Liverpool tbh

Arsenal, City and Chelsea are all established top 4 and then you look where Liverpool finished the 3 seasons before last.

IMO it will be Liverpool and United going for 4th, United will need time to get it right and could miss out but it is Van Gaal so Rodgers will have to get his transfers really spot on to deal with all competitions and finish in the top 4 ahead of United who will probably spend a massive amount in the summer.

Huge summer for both clubs really

I have no doubt we will be really at it for the Champions league games. The atmosphere at Anfield and the history of the club in Europe will all serve to push the club to do as well as possible in the group games and hopefully beyond.

Our league form may well suffer unless we have a very good transfer window and get those 3 quality signings. It may still suffer as a result. Thats why I only have us finishing 12 to 14 points clear of second at the end of the season.

I really don't care how strong the opposition could be - the first season back should be just regarded as a bit of fun that will raise Liverpools profile. Getting beyond the group stage would be a surprise.

    No.

Utd appointing Van Gaal turns the ante up just that little bit more.

it further cements, if it even needed cementing, that this summer is a motherfúcking huge one.

Chelsea, City and Arsenal, rightly, will be favourites next season for 3 of the Champions League spots. they've been there, done it, and have better squads than ours.

Utd made their mistake last season and did not make the same mistake twice. this guy could walk into any of the top 5 clubs in Europe and do a job.

be aggressive in the transfer market and shock everyone again.

    then they'll believe us.

I find it difficult to see United not getting top 4 next season with 1) van Gaal as manager 2) The quality in the squad already (de Gea, Mata, Rooney, van Persie etc.), 3) The amount of money they're likely to spend in the Summer and 4) no European distractions (a big factor, that's overlooked to a large extent)

Liverpool should do well next season but I think an awful lot depends on Rodger's signings this Summer. His signings have been very hit and miss to date. Squad depth is definitely lacking and would come into play in the league during a very competitive CL group stage plus knockout stage/europa league games, unless enough of the right personnel come in and add to the squad. Even then I think the league campaign will be more difficult with Mourinho and Pellegrini in their second seasons almost certain to improve, along with United's inevitable return. Arsenal have plenty of money to spend by all accounts too, but again a lot will depend on whether they spend it right. And I wouldn't rule Tottenham out of the top 4 conversation by any stretch, plenty of quality players there and money to spend. It's all about getting the right manager for them.

The PL will be very competitive next season anyway, that's for sure.

World Cup will be a big hindrance to United.

LVG will only have a few weeks with the squad before the PL kicks off.

World cup will be a big hindrance to everyone, I get your point with respect to getting used to the place and getting his transfer dealing done, but most players playing at world cup won't be be around for training anyway.... so no loss there.

Rodgers will only have a few weeks with the full squad too. Any new signings that are playing in the world cup won't be coming until after.

Depends how involved on the training ground he is. He has Giggs and another lad he's bringing with him who will be drilling the squad ......I don't think It will impact them too much. It would have if they had delayed the appointment until after the World Cup.

Mike you've been around long enough to know that it's natural for discussion on the two teams to cross over at times, especially when the particular discussion is directly in relation to both clubs.

He has had 2 years to assess where the squad needs strenghtening and identify his targets. Van Gaal won't have that luxury, whether it proves to be a major hindrance only time will tell but I would imagine it will do.

I don't think Van Gaal is fortunate to have a wealth of up and coming youngsters at the club to renergise the squad.

The first 6 months will be all about him getting the players to buy into his system and get the new players gelled in. If we get it together after Christmas we would still have a shout for 4th I think.

First and foremost we need players, same as Liverpool. I can't wait for next season, seeing whether United can get back in the mix, whether Rodgers can sustain Liverpool at the same level, you have Mourinho in his second season when he's normally most dangerous, Pellegrini will undoubtedly improve, Wenger may get the fire back in his belly. It's shaping up to be a great season.

If the World Cup wasn't enough to look forward to!

If the we **** up the transfer window this season then heads should roll. We've put ourselves in a good position to push on but we need to get some proper first team players.
