The Last Line screams Lallana to me. I guess that's that. :D

Really. I was thinking Reus this time... maybe the Messi deal is off.

We need to get some photos of them leaning.

More than happy with Borini coming back tbh. He's shown he can cut in playing in big games for Sunderland.

There were a few games after Sturridge returned from injury where he was poor enough, clearly not sharp enough. Someone like Borini would have been more than fine to bring on.

Messi isn't flexible enough, and doesn't work hard enough on defense!

Reus, Muller, Shaqiri all fit the bill - Danke!

Was just struck by a nice thought there - Victor Moses isn't a Liverpool player any more.

I agree with some of the sentiments here about Borini. Yes he is a decent option but so far he wouldnt convince me that he could come off the bench and score for us. Dont get me wrong I actually rate the lad and I know we havent seen enough of him yet (I realise Im contradicting myself here) but I just wouldnt be too confident seeing him come on with 20 minutes to go when we need a goal. Basically we need a Hernandez type. Comes on gets in the box and scores. Not sure if Borini is that player - Aspas was probably bought for that reason but it hasnt worked out.
I think Borini needs to be playing entire games to see the best of him. If we are going to compete in CL we need another striker option anyway assuming Aspas will be gone. Also Suarez surely cant stay injury free forever. United in their pomp always had strikers they could call on off the bench to score goals - I dont think we have that yet.

Borini as 3rd striker and i would say they would bring in a wing forward that can play up front aswell to have 4 strikers in the ranks.

The issue with Borini is if he's happy to be the 3rd striker.

Now, we've alot of games next season so he will get games but surely he'll want to be starting games regularly ?

I think he'd be happy with it, I reckon he'd get 15/20 starts and lots of off-the-bench appearances. That's got to be worth staying, unless another CL team thinks he is a regular starter?

83% of the time Van Persie scored was an important goal, itd make you wonder what if he'd been fit all season.
Of course they were, when your team is crap and losing a lot all your goals will be important

So despite coming out a few weeks ago and saying he didn't want to go anywhere, Sky are running a story that Suarez is focusing on the world cup and won't comment on a potential move to Barca or Real.

The BBC interpreted that as Suarez dismissing transfer speculation:
    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27420777

Meanwhile in the Czech Republic Smicer is running in the European elections:
    http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-eu-27378153
Tackling Obesity is his main goal and he says:
"We've got to get our kids away from their computers, tablets and smartphones and get them moving. This is something Europe needs to care about."
    Obviously not a boards fan

He might even get more starts than that, i think next season other teams will of learned alot about our current style of play etc and the best way to counter it, i think having Borini in the mix will provide a great option allowing us futher flexibility in the way the team in lined up and the formation.

We definitely need a plan B for next season. Teams will just play 10 men behind the ball and hope for a break all season long

If we practice slipping in midfield then the opposition will pour men forward, only for us to recover and counter them - simples

The only risk is properly slipping and losing. I think it's solid

I disagree, Aspas was about much more than that at Celta.

There's very few Hernandez type strikers around, much more is demanded of modern day strikers if they want to play at all regularly. And any that are as good at finishing as him aren't likely gonna want to sit on the bench.

Of course, depending on who else we sign. And what we do with Aspas. I would be tempted to sell the latter, and sign someone different to Borini who can play as a striker when needed, rather than a wide player who can be pushed up front like Sterling or Ibe...

Any striker that joins us will be behind Suarez and Sturridge ... so it becomes a catch 22 that A we all know Sturridge takes a few knocks and B no big name striker will sit it out while those 2 are in the side. No striker wants to sit on the bench fullstop. It becomes a balancing act really. I'd prefer if Brendan doesn't trust Borini as of yet that he'd send him out to keep his progress up.

Borini was playing in a side who, by all rights, should have been relegated. He scored 4 goals in the relegation run in and helped them stay up in a massive way. He's scored against Chelsea twice, Newcastle twice (Sunderland's biggest games of the season), United once and against City in the League Cup final, all while playing out of position.

He'll be a perfect option to bring on from the bench next season and as a rotation player and hopefully makes a claim for a starting spot.

What a difference a year makes, though. This time last year the majority were taking the pis5 out of him, now the majority want him kept. Just goes to show the idiocy of judging a player early on in his career.

Just back from a kickabout with the lads and a plane flew over us with a banner saying 'giggs 13- gerrard -0' the greatest "banter" that ever was.

Problem with loan deals are that you need him to play in a team that's similar to how we play - that's easier said then done. I watched him at Birmingham and he looked pretty isolated when played as a very wide left winger in a rigid 442 system. I think the best place for him to get experience is playing with us and my inclination would be to use him for FA Cup/League Cup games. Sterling was already a squad player for us when he was a little bit younger than Ibe, so for me, it's time to give him a chance with the senior team.

The kid has shown he is a man for the big occasion too, and considering the chances we create compared to when he first moved here where everything was a bit patchy offensively with the tiki taka malarkey.

Good point, there wasn't much cutting edge in that first half of the season. Errrrrrr (wait for the out dated cliche), we'd have been nowhere without Suarez's goals. :o

I just don't know if he'd suit a fast counter attacking style. It's very hard to judge when he was playing in a team struggling all season. But yeah, if we are spending £50-70 Million, I don't really see the need for an upgrade. Another AM/wing type player would make more sense to me and then concentrate on the back 4, CM and a second keeper.

We have a plan B and C and D etc.

Rodgers played numerous systems this season, the diamond, 4-3-3, 3-5-2.

We pressed some teams high up and dropped back and destroyed others on the counter.

Just because we don't hoof the ball up to a big target man, doesn't mean we don't have a plan B.

Could be decent at a team like Wigan or Brighton.

I think Ibe could be devastating as an impact sub late in a game.

Yep, we had lots of systems, the big problem for us is that the squad cover (Alberto, Aspas, Moses, etc.) just wasn't good enough. If you're looking at a front four of Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho and Konoplyanka (or whoever), then you have the likes of Borini, Suso and Ibe as decent backup, that gives you a lot of options if you're looking to change the game.

This is what people were saying about Sterling this time last season. I seem to remember a lot of people saying he was a brainless SWP type of player but whose pace could be useful off the bench. Look what he became though. Ibe deserves a chance imho.

If Ibe is going on loan again we should hope that Derby get promoted - that would be a team he could flourish in playing on the left side of a 4-3-3

I have few doubts that Ibe will develop into a good player for the club. What I am getting at though is that instead of loaning him out next season, he could be an asset to the first team now. All the while developing at the club like sterling.
